Intimidating

Does anyone else think the weight machines in a gym look like torture devices?? I'm so thankful I have a PT to tell me what to do on these things. Its so confusing! So proud of myself today for getting in almost 90 mins of cardio in and then worked with my PT on all the weight machines. Feeling tired and sore though so tomorrow will have to be a short day I think. :)

I use to walk by a machine that looked interesting and then walk by it again. Then, I would circle it like a shark in hopes of seeing the instructions on how to get into the machine. Now, I just stand there like i have no shame and look at the instructions, diagrams, pictures and anything else that will help me figure the contraption out!

What would be recommended to someone who doesnt have a gym nearby to attend? I own a treadmill, weight set with leg press etc. So if you have no gym accessible what one piece of equipment would one add to what I already have, to assure good overall workouts. I was thinking of an elliptical? Any suggestions?

I think an elliptical would be great, but you should really use it before you buy it to make sure it's a good fit for you. Ellipticals have different stride lengths. The one I love at my gym makes my workout partner really hurt because we have different stride lengths. She prefers the one at our community center while it makes me feel like I'm taking baby steps.

I love my recumbent bikes, though. You can vary the intensity and it's much easier to use than the elliptical, at least early in your weight loss journey. If you have knee problems, the bike is a great way to get in an intense workout without killing your knees.

Yep, I can never get into the training machines or stationary cycles. For one thing I get BORED out of my mind. Funny thing is I can go to the pool and swim for an hour with nothing more to look at but the bottom of the pool and I'm just fine. I can ride my bike out doors for an hour too with no problem, put me in a gym and I'm bored to tears. I am lucky that our city has an adult wellness center with a pool as well as a nice hike / bike trail system.

I still feel that way. When I'm on the treadmill I'm checking out what other people are doing on their machines, lol. I keep looking at the elliptical, but my PT said that can be difficult to use when you first get started so I think I'll stick with what I'm using right now til I get more stamina. Unless theres no one at the gym one day when I'm there, lol. The elliptical seems to be the most popular thing though, theres always a ton of people on them :/

MK, It took me a LONG time to get up my nerve to try the elliptical. Then I could only do about 3 minutes before I thought I'd pass out. I tried the one at my community center and did 15 minutes with no problems. The second one is about worn out, so no resistance and easier to make it move, but it helped me figure out the motion that I'm looking for on the one at the gym.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
