Went n saw surgeon, I had failed diets before, met the bmi criteria, had history of obesity, and gloriously got approved quickly! Took me little over a month, start to finish.

Started out with UHC and it was a great plan but yes they required 6 months of doctor visits with monthly weights and documentation of diet and exercise information AND the doctor had to have it in a specific format to please them. Had to change insurance and took three more months for apporval from new insurance after they denied me and my doctor appealed it was approved

Yep..6 months of a medically supervised diet with diet and excercise notes, 5yrs of documented weight history, nut visit and psych evaluation. I didn't want to wait 6 months either but once I realized that was the deal I figured that the 6 months would pass whether I did the steps required or not...better to make the most of my 6 months. Besides, I used that time to give up sodas and limit my carbs (slowly) and it really helped me form those new habits! Once I was post op I didn't have all sorts of shocks to my system, in a lot of ways I was ready for it.

Only took about two months start to finish, could have been sooner but the scheduler messed up and delayed it about three weeks.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
