Sammy, I was looking and you just had it done 4 days ago? Give it some time before being so negative. Yes, I'm still waiting to be sleeved, but so many people say (months later) its the best thing they have ever done and should have done it sooner! I'm so ready for this, that I'm even ok if I don't make it! I don't want to be like this anymore!

I had mine June 11,2010..almost 2 years out and I lost 200 pounds! It was the BEST decision I have ever made for myself. Best advice would to make sure you get friendly with the gym sooner rather than later and keep hydrated! Also check out local support groups/ making sure you surround yourself with positive and supportive people. My starting weight was 350, currently steady between 145-150. If you have any questions feel free to message me!

ms.amby---that is awesome.

New rich, I'm 3 months out, definitely glad I had it done. The first month is really rough. Best advice is to make sure you're secure with your choice of surgeons. Then make sure and follow his/her instructions.

Welcome and we all wish you the best in your new adventure.

While Sammy's terse negative comment has value please remember that for an OVERWHELMING majority of sleevers the surgery is VERY successful. Keeping that in mind do NOT approach it without concern, bad things CAN and DO occur, then again balance those possibilities with the risk of remaining morbidly obese for the rest of your life.

Study it out, ask questions and seek out all the information THEN make up YOUR decision to do it or not. It worked for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
