Don't know what's going on with me. I have a wonderful job, make a great income, have a wonderful husband but I'm feeling very depressed. My weight loss has been ok, maybe on the slow side but I have lost 35 lbs since mid March. Had sleeve 4/3. I don't have any energy or zeal for life. Is this normal at this point.

I was low on energy for the first couple of months. I was falling asleep before 8 p.m., which is unheard of for me. It takes a lot of energy to lose weight, and it was doing me in without doing anything else.

Exercising helped me become more energetic. I also felt much more energized as time went on.

You taking your Vitamins? I think it is lack of B12 that can cause tiredness. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone in the know will come along and give the correct advice.

Yes, B12 deficiency can cause fatigue and a host of other issues, too.

But it sounds like you should talk to someone in person, if that's an option for you. Sometimes the start of the weight loss journey brings other issues we have (but blamed on the weight) to a head. It's not uncommon for people to battle depression after surgery. In fact, there's a sticky'd thread about it somewhere on VST!

I'd get in to the doc and ask for guidance. Perhaps counseling could help. Vitamin deficiency could be a culprit and exercise will help you release more serotonin and help you feel less "down."

This could be your signal, feeling this way, to get started on the head work that should accompany your surgery. Periods of depression happen to a lot of us (I've had my share!) but getting at the underlying issue can only help you in the long run to be a happier and overall healthier person.

Best,

~Cheri

Thanks everyone, going to see my physician next week about an antidepressant and lab work.

I would recommend lab work to rule anything physical out (ie, Vitamin B deficiency) first and then look into a therapist if everything comes out OK.

I've suffered from clinical depression for about 15 years now and while it is under control with medication, I have too noticed a major dip since my surgery mid-March. I'm having the hardest time with fatigue and energy issues. I know part of it is depression as I've been suffering from this for so long. However, it's always best to rule out anything physical first.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
