Better Eye Sight After Wls?

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I am 18 months post-op, lost approx 110 lbs. All is going good. I am happy with all my test result. Age is 60.

Have to watch my salt intake, because of blood pressure. Everything else is great.

What I notice now that I am working out on a regular basis, eating healthy and with the weight loss.

My eye sight seem to getting better. I've been using reading glasses for years.

I don't know is it because the diabetes is under control, yet I can read small print a bit clearer without

the use of glasses. Was in church, pickup the bible and did not need the glasses to read it.

Have any members notice any improvement in their vision after WLS.

Thanks & be well,

Lash

The weight loss can help your eyes for a number of reasons. Diabetes is one. High blood pressure lowering is another (when you have extremely high blood pressure it actually changes the shape of the entire eyeball and distorts vision. I had my eyes checked in October and since surgery my prescription is wrong). I came off BP meds and the shape of my eye changed so my rx had to change too. Unfortunately, mine was in the other direction. Also, high cholesterol has been shown to marginally impair vision. Either way, congrats on some major benefits!!

There is a woman in my support group who no longer needs to wear glasses. At first she thought something was wrong with her eyes because her vision seemed worse with the glasses, unless she realized she didn't need them anymore!

What a cool NSV!

I've been working in optics for 6 yrs (leaving as soon as I get sleeved for a better job.). Diabetes and high BP play a major role in vision. Have seen patients have major Rx changes within 24 hrs simply bc their sugar was not regulated. I can definitely see how the sleeve could help

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
