Protein Mixed With Water Or Milk

Recommended Posts

I figure Water has less calories so I will do that, but pre-op I was wondering if milk would help with the hunger some?

Milk is probably fine if you do Skim milk. I currently mix mine with a Slimfast which does have some sugar, but I'm eating under 800 cals a day and under 70 grams of carbs a day.

I have always used 2% milk or half milk/half coffee. I make really good Protein Shakes and still drink them occasionally at 4.5 months out. I couldn't make a decent shake with Water.< /p>

My dietician told me to mix my Protein Shakes up with Skim Plus milk, it has no fat like skim milk but taste way more creamier and it has 11 grams of Protein per cup so in a shaker I do two cups (22 grams protein) plus two scoops of Dutch chocolate Isopure which is 50 Grams protein and altogether I got my 72 grams of protein for the day. It taste great with a little sugar free vanilla flavoring.

I have been having problems tolerating dairy since my surgery (only 3 weeks out so hopefully that will change!). I didn't even TRY my Protein Shake with Water because I KNEW it would be BLECH! I switched from 1% (lactose-free!) to Unsweetened Almond Milk. It's only got 30 calories per cup (vs. about 70 per cup with milk) and no tolerance issues!

It does have a slightly nutty flavour to it, but you get used to it. Downside is there is only 1 g of Protein per cup, but upside is there is only 1 g of carb per cup! Could be worth looking at if you're trying to cut calories, as long as you keep the lower Protein amount in mind too.

Use skim milk in my opinion. It's going to add even more protien which will help you stay full even longer. Don't worry about calories, I don't think I've broken about 650 calories a day on my pre-op diet.

I mix some of my shakes with light plain soy milk (I'm lactose intolerant) and sometimes with water....when I drink my nectar drinks I mix together a packet of crystal light and then add my nectar protien....makes for a cool drink....

Unsweetened Silk Almond Milk, 30 calories per cup, 1g carbohydrate as Fiber, 1g Protein. Win in my opinion. :)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
