How many of you have had your gallbladder out since surgery? After several attacks of the worst pain I've ever experienced my doctor has scheduled me to have mine out this Thursday. I'm more nervous about this than I was about my WLS!

I've been taking actigall for about 3 months now but I've been getting little shooting pains in the middle/left side of my back for the last week or so. I hope it's not gallstones but that's my worry... I would have been fine with my surgeon removing it with my sleeve surgery but he won't take them out unless they're showing signs of problems already.

Mine came out 10 months post-op after acute pancreatitis, wow did that hurt. The surgery was done in the am and I was discharged home in the afternoon. It hurt more for me than the VSG did but other people have said VSG was worse for them. I had no complications afterward and I'm relieved to have it gone. I do notice that if I eat more fat than usual the following day I'm in the bathroom a littlle more frequently.

Beth what does an attack feel like?

It's the worst pain ever!! It started with nausea and soon after that it really started hurting. It was right under my boobs and went all the way around to my back. It was a tightness along with what felt like being stabbed in my right side. I couldn't take a deep breath or stand up even. I had chills and was sweating and shaking. It lasted about 1.5 hours and only stopped after taking 2 lorarabs, 3 extra strength Tylenol, and an ambien. I have never in my life hurt that bad.

Thank you so much. You have described exactly what I had 2x so far. I thought it was from me eating something wrong. If this happens more for me I will have it looked at. I feel your pain. Literally

Apparently gallbladder removal is the second most common surgery in the US (according to the surgeon who yanked mine!) You'll do fine and will bless the surgeon for getting rid of it.

I got my gallbladder out 2 1/2 yrs ago. Apparently i had periodic attacks over the last 10 yrs. Mine felt like super bad indigestion Smack in the middle of my chedt and it crept behind my back thru my shoulder blade.

I had mine taken out 2 weeks after I was sleeved. I was dehydrated and very surprised to be admitted for surgery so soon. I wasn't able to keep food down and the pain was horrible. I thought it was just heartburn or something. I am happy it was done. I am better off without that pesky gallbladder.

Did having it out slow you weight loss at all? I've read some stuff about gaining weight after the surgery, but that was from unsleeved people. Im curious if it effects us the same way.

I voluntarily had mine out at the same time I was sleeved- I'm super glad I did- its stories like these that scared me so bad- one surgery was PLENTY for me!

I felt so crummy after surgery I lost another 5 lbs while I recuperated. Mostly I tried to sleep so I didn't eat much for about a week. Then I kept it off after I felt better!

My thing is I am 40lbs to goal. I never had issues before. I did notice it only happens when I make significant drops in weight. I am trying to hold out cause I am so close. Hopefully everything goes back to normal when I reach that area. I did schedule an appointment for some meds though. I appreciate you coming up Beth. I been sitting here thinking I couldnt eat chicken hahaha

Rapid weight loss can cause stones and the more stones you accumulate the more attacks you get. Remove that thing! I had mine removed about 10 years ago after experiencing the same symptoms. During that time I had dropped 50 lbs on my own and the surgeon said it was the rapid weight loss and sudden drastic change in diet that did it . Who knew trying to get healthy would be so painful!!!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
