How far out were you when you tried salad? How did it go for you? I am 8 weeks out tomorrow and I am dying for a salad.

I'm not far enough out for that yet, but, mu post-op diet has me adding many raw veggies back at 4-6 weeks. Just remember to chew the heck out of it & avoid celery.

I did not have salad until 6 months post -op. It was my surgeon's rule for by-pass patients so I just didnt want to try it too early. Same with nuts and any thing with a shell or skin like grapes.

You may not like my answer, but I couldn't eat a salad without getting a stomach ache until I was past the 6 month mark!

That's great that you are craving healthy stuff, but you just have to be careful with your tender new sleeve. Everyone is different, but I would just recommend that you (a) find out when your surgeon clears you for raw veggies and (B) proceed with caution.

As soon as I progressed to a full diet I had a salad. That day!!! I went easy on things like cumber for awhile, but I LOVE salad! Because I chew it really well, the lettuce disolves to practically nothing, so I feel like I can eat a LOT. I'm 4 months out, and for the past month at least 2 nights a week I eat salad for dinner. I don't add meat, but I do put in a few nuts and some cheese to ramp up the Protein.< /strong>

I CAN eat salad and could starting about 2 months post-op, but I don't, because it makes me feel so full, and then because it is low in calories, I can't fit in enough cals later in the day. I eat a LOT of raw veggies, though, which don't bother me. The lettuce is the issue!

5 months out, no salads yet. I have, however, had most ingredients to my favorite salads, lol...nothing leafy, however.

When im craving a salad i try really hard to get in all my Protein for Breakfast and lunch then im ok for later to have a salad, and have it with a couple oz of chicken breast or turkey.

This past weekend! At 4 weeks post op! And boy was it good! I chopped everything in tiny bits and pieces and added rotisserie chicken, finely chopped as well!

I had a summer roll a week or so ago. I'm at 12 Weeks now. Basically the same as salad. Full of lettuce, carrots, cucumber, and shrimp. I chewed well, and it went down fine. :)

My surgeon's nutritionist said no salads for 3 months, but I tried a small salad finely chopped with minimal extra's and was fine. I LOVE salad and couldn't stand not having a salad any longer. It never created a problem for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
