Atlanta Sleevers Both Pre-Op And Post- Op Need Guidance, Help!

Recommended Posts

Hi Atlanta Sleevers,

I am new to this process and have yet to really get my process moving, so far my insurance is a no go but I am still trying to pursue this surgery. My question to you is how do you go about finding the right surgeon? Can you share your process on the routes you have taken. So far I have been researching Surgeons and comparing. I notice that there are some form of seminar type sessions you are required to take but how do you get an appointment for a consultation? Help.............

Hi!

I am new to this also, but my PCP recommended me to. Dr mcGill @ Piedmont. They required I attend a seminar before they would schedule a consultation. It was less than two hours, and worth it as it answered so many questions. They followed up with me and checked my insurance. Turns out I am NOT covered....so I am now looking into Mexican surgery options. Good luck!

Hi and thanks, my PCP is out of Piedmont Fayetteville. i have an appointment with her next month and will ask her of Dr.McGill so far I was told although my insurance does cover this form of surgery my husbands company opted out of those plans. It really sucks to pay money every month and still not be covered for what you need to make yourself healthy. Thanks for responding and I hope Mexico works out for you.

My surgeon was Dr Scott Steinberg- out of Dekalb Medical- the prelim consultations are pretty much universal, no matter who your doctor is, I have good things about Dr Titus Duncan in Atlanta as well....

Hi! Welcome :) As far as what I've been told, when you go to your required informational seminar, you can then make an initial appt with your surgeon.

Hi changewithin and welcome to this site. I would suggest you first start with your PCP (Primary Care Physician) and get some suggestions from her/him. You can also go to some of the various web sites (like this one) and search for doctors & hospitals in your area. See if they have seminars or webinars and attend as many as you can in order to get as much information as possible. While you're searching the web, check to see which type of surgery you are interested in so you can have questions at the seminars.

That's what I did and after attending several seminars I decided to go with Swedish Hospital in Seattle, WA (Dr. McMahon). His seminar was the best and he seemed like a real down-to-earth person. One of his staff members was there also and she was great with respect to her portion of the presentation.

Good luck on your journey and please keep us posted as to your new discoveries.

When considering paying cash for the sleeve don't overlook Dr. Scott Stowers in Decatur, Dallas and Keller/Ft.Worth. He performed my surgery and they have a cash special for $10,950 the website is mybariatricsolutions.com...I know it's a distance but well worth it! Good luck and NEVER give up!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
