6 Month Supervised Diet?!

Recommended Posts

I guys. New here. Just curious...did anyone NOT have to do the 6 month supervised diet/weigh in? I've read some getting the surgery is as little as 3 months and then others having to wait 6++ months! Thanks guys :)

Mine required a total of 6 months supervised diet within a 24 month span (did not have to be consecutive 6 months). I am through BCBS.

In October 2011 my surgeon told me to lose 20 lbs by January AND complete the multitude of tests (leg ultrasound, upper gi, blood work, psych eval, cardiology/stress test, gall bladder ultrasound, etc., etc., etc.). By January I had lost 35 lbs and completed all my lab tests and was told I was being moved to the head of the class. My insurance (BC/BS of California) approved my surgery and I could have been sleeved as early as February. However, I had work obligations and vacation plans in February so delayed the surgery to March. In October it seemed like such a long journey and and doubted if it was worth it. Here I am 10 weeks post-op and feeling great. I am grateful to have had a tip-to-tail physical because now I know I am a healthy 50 year old who is making tremendous changes toward improving my life.

Hmm...I also have United Healthcare, but not the same plan as you...I'd love it if they required me to do a 3 month instead of 6. Congrats on getting your sleeve!

I have United Healthcare and am required to have 3 months of nutritional sessions. Your employer is responsible for the stipulations and requirements not united healthcare.

I'm self-pay, so don't have a pre-op diet, and my doctor doesn't even require one to lower liver size BUT - I'm on a self-imposed preop cause A: I'm obsessing, lol and B: I want to be as prepared as possible and losing 40+ pounds BEFORE surgery would be a nice boost to my success post-op.

I also had UHC, and I had to go a 6MSWL plan. Even under the same insurance, the plans can vary by employer and location.

I'm with Aetna and I had a 3 month supervised diet. I had so see my regular doctor AND a nutritionist once a month for three months. I actually ended up GAINING two pounds at the end of the three months and was terrified that I would not be approved. I was approved within a matter of a day. It is just a hurdle we need to jump but it is much nicer on the other side.

See, I'd love for it to be 3 months! My health insurance is through NY state medicaid...and united healthcare is my *** plan..so I'm not sure of requirements yet till I meet with my Dr :)

Thank you all for your help :) I'll jump through the necessary hoops insurance may throw...anything worth having is worth working hard over!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
