My surgery is scheduled for one week from tomorrow. I am really struggling with the preop diet and haven't been totally faithful to it. If I can't do that, that doesn't bode very well for me post surgery. Feeling totally discouraged and like I am just wasting everyone's time and my money. Feel like a loser .... And not the good kind.

Just take it one day at a time. You will do just fine. This is something good that you need, and you will not regret it

I know what you mean. I get so excited and into the operation then every once in a while I step back and think WTH am I thinking. I am an overeater. I can't go without food.

I know you can do it and so can I because of all of the examples of those who went before us and are happy/healthy in their lives because of it.

I understand that you feel that if you can't do the pre-opt diet without cheating, than you might have the same trouble after the surgery. In some ways your right, but 99% of us have made bad choices. The preopt diet is the hardest. Do the best you can and don't worry about the procedure It will happen and you will adjust. I promise you. You will learn to eat healthier smaller portions and you will love your weight loss! It's totally amazing. Don't give up, you can do this, you've come this far already. ;)

I am feeling this way too; I didn't try very hard on my insurance required diet because diets dont work for me; my doctor wanted me to lose about 30 lbs before surgery and I'm not sure if I will be there or not. I just want to not be controlled by food anymore! I promised my mom before she passed away that I would make a change and somehow, I have to stick to that. Be strong!

Most all of us suffer from food addicition and this is why we choose this route. Who else would have 85% of their stomach removed to save their lives? This is a 12 step program in a way. We just try to get through one day at a time until we learn the habits we need to lead a happy life. You will make steps forward and steps back. But remember that you are trying to save your life. It will get easier, I promise.

Thanks to everyone for all the support -- I really need it right now. I just can't understand why I am so weak in this area -- in everything else I do I am no nonsense, get 'er done. In my professional life people would be stunned to learn how weak I really am. I can't tell you how much it means all of you to be so supportive. I don't know what I would do without it.

That's all part of the addiction!! I'm scheduled for tomorrow morning. My husband just finished cooking his dinner and I want to go in, rip the lid off the pot and grab a big huge spoon. However, that is also why I need the sleeve - it's all about the portion and the reminder that I can no longer eat enough to feed 3 people. This is also the reason I think many of us go through the emotional ups and downs because for a while afterwards you may feel deprived. its really about learning a new "normal". You can do this if you want to change where you are today. Think about it, if you don't go this route where will you be in 5 years? I know for me I would still be struggling with my weight and life is too short not to be all that I'm meant to be!

I'm only 5days post op. I'll be totally honest, even yesterday, I was saying to myself "why the hell did I do this!?" I'm sometimes still even saying it. I know everyone has already said it, but you just need to work hard in your pre op diet. It is so important to actually loose a little bit of weight before surgery to reduce risk from anesthesia. It's hard to loose the little bit of weight but you have to try. You need to get healthy in order to get healthy!!! Good luck!

Just keep thinking in your mind how it is ONLY temporary! You will be able to eat again, just not right now! That forum post title should say Not sure I CAN'T do this, because you CAN. Just keep reminding yourself, maybe even write post-it notes around areas you frequent at home to remind yourself that you are strong and you can do this, for yourself and your body! :) We have faith in you!

Do you still regret it and how are you feeling in terms of pain? Are you still hunger post-op?

I've never regretted it. Probably should have phrased better lol. I'm guessing you haven't had surgery yet? It's hard to explain, but when you have your surgery, your emotions are truly EVERYWHERE!! In a matter or one day I went through alllll the emotions you could possibly think of. (fear, worry, anger, happiness, proud of myself, "how am I going to do this", "will I be able to eat what I want again?" ) etc. my first few days home, I thought I was hungry. I was devastated. I knew with the sleeve that the big part of it was that the operation removed the part of your stomach that releases the hormone that makes you feel hungry. I thought the operation didn't work. I did research and found out that there is such thing as physical hunger and head hunger, and I was defiantly suffering from head hunger. Now I am actually having a hard time taking everything I need in because I'm not hungry at all. But I don't regret this at all. I'm only 21 and I pretty much did this surgery on my own. Just take it one day at a time and you will do great!

I think all of us experience that "What in the world??!!!" Moment.. most of the time it's fleeting!!! Mine was... so I thought!! LOL.. Early out 1-2 weeks.. I had thoughts that maybe I should have gotten a haircut or a tattoo or something.. but then the weight, inches and food chains started falling off...

This is my thread about my first 4 days... Many have chronicled their journey here.. I hope you find the encouragement you need to start living the "Sleeved" life... Best wishes...

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
