lizzyshade 56 Posted June 3, 2012 How much time did you take off work before going back? Was it full time, part time? I took 2 weeks off, supposed to go back on Tuesday, not sure if I'm going to be up to it yet. What about others?
thinkingabout-it 20 Posted June 3, 2012 I had my surgery on Tues. May 15th and returned to work the following Monday. I am a Hospice Nurse. I was just tired in the late afternoon, and I notice I go to bed a little earlier then prior to my surgery. 1 aznurse4u reacted to this
emily_0192010 168 Posted June 3, 2012 I took 2 weeks, but I was ready to go back after 1. I was a bit tired and bit slower than usual, but not by much. Once I started it was much easier to keep going. Any way you can start back part-time? To ease yourself into it? It may also be helpful to start on weds or thurs instead, that way you won't have to work a full week. It would ease you back into it a little easier. mzcoug01 5 Posted June 3, 2012 I was wondering about the same thing. So far, work has giving me until June 10th and my dr has requested more time.

Kthump 18 Posted June 3, 2012 I had mine done on a Thursday. I could easily have gone back on Tuesday. Physically, I was ready. I was in no hurry to return, though - and opted to take some "me time", instead. I think that I feared I may fall into old habits too quickly. I took 2 weeks off. I used this time to focus on making life changes. I walked and walked and walked every chance I could. I spent tons of time on Pinterest - looking for healthy, high Protein foods. I also spent lots of time on this wonderful website. I just feel that it really allowed me to get into a positive mindset for this adventure. Down 62 since surgery 1-5-12! 87 since mid October when my journey began! 1 njgal reacted to this
lizzyshade 56 Posted June 3, 2012 Thanks for the input, I guess I am just healing slow, because it will be 2 wks on Monday since sleeved & I still don't feel like I could work a full shift. I'm going to take 2 extra days & then work a half shift the rest of the week. Decided I better listen to my body because it would be worse to go back to soon & end up taking more unscheduled time off. 1 MamaM reacted to this
vanb0052 40 Posted June 3, 2012 My surgeon put 4 weeks on my disability papers! I'm hoping that I'll recover much faster of course, and be able to have some "me time" before heading back. I just want to make sure I'm comfortable in my own skin and with my new eating habits before returning.

AnneG 7 Posted June 4, 2012 I took 5 weeks off but that was because of special circumstances- my office hired a sub for my recovery period when my surgery was submitted for approval and then I was denied and had to appeal which took approx 3.5 more months and so by the time I got approved and actually scheduled for surgery - I think I felt obligated to take the projected length of full recovery time necessary. I work on my feet with people and sometimes am required to do lifting and stand in strained positions for long periods of time, so I wanted to be 100%. By the time I went back to work I was eating solids and was used to the changes in eating and lifestyle post op. I think I would have been fine at 3 weeks post op but I've read from many people who took 2 weeks off or less and seemed to do just fine. I think it has a lot to do with what your work requires and how well a person adjusts post operatively and if there are any complications. Everyone is different depending on their circumstances- your doctor could give you a good estimation of the amount of time you might require off from work.
