My Story ,my Life,my Decsion!

Recommended Posts

I can truly say that I am nervous and going threw a lot of mixed emotions. I had my second consult with my doctor and decided to get the sleeve surgery date is 8/15/ 2012 . I hope everything goes threw I'm trying to have it before my kids go back to school so I can relax . I have already scheduled all of my appointments so my insurance will cover my procedure. Well first thing my Dr. Ask me to do was one of the hardest was to quit smoking .Its been five days now I didn't go cold turkey but I'm using an electric cigarette which helps with the cravings I've been a smoker for more than half my life that's 20 yrs smoking and I'm 33 go figure.. I was a mom at a very young age 16 I gave birth to my first child and gained 70 lbs ..lost maybe 40 and had my second @19 gained 45 lbs now I'm at 250lbs. Got an office job scheduling and was glue to my seat gained another 30 lbs in 6 yrs got pregnant @25 wait gain now I'm over 300 lbs got pregnant 1 yr later with my 4th child highest wt 315 .. I am currently 270 and my goal is 170-180 . I don't want to be too skinny I'm 5'9 and carry wt well but I'm exhausted and I have diabetes and hypertension and I'm too young for these issues due to my wt .So it's time to get that title my Dr placed on my diagnosis one day morbid obese ..Now I'm seeing things differently time for a change ..life change...new me!!

Congratulations on a new you!! I know this is a big decision for you and it takes everything in your life being in place for you to come to this type of decision. I think when it's time to make that change, your heart and mind are in complete agreement and you have to go for it! Now or never right?!?

Again, Congrats! I hope to follow your journey =)

PS.. my date is June 29 ! YAY!

Congratulations on making the decision! Sometimes that is the hardest part. Admitting we have a problem and making an effort to fix it is never a bad thing though! Some people are worried about the risks of the surgery, but considering the risks that we put daily on our bodies by being obese... it is beyond worth it!

I also wanted to say kudos to you for having your kids so young and being a great mom to them (its obvious because you want to take care of yourself so that you can be around longer for them). My mom had me young too, and I love her so much! We may have struggled at times but I always knew how much I was loved and cherished and that is the best possible knowledge a child can have! I love young and/or single moms :)

Good luck and please keep us updated!

I am here to tell you that it can be done. I started the process for the sleeve in October 2011. I quit smoking December 26th. (over 5 months now) stopped drinking any alcohol or caffienated drinks six weeks ago and I was finally sleeved on 5/29. I found quitnet.com to be a very helpful site on my quitting smoking journey. I have learned a lot about myself in the process. I am looking forward to the next year to see my transformation. You can do this! When I first quit smoking i was not happy about it. I thought I would just go right back to it once I had my sleeve done. Not anymore. I have ZERO desire to smoke now. I want to be healthy 100 percent. Good luck in your journey!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
