Yoda's Jedi Journals (aka Yoda's Yammerin's)

....I think that is why it is so important to measure.....you reallllly see the difference then.

Here is the amt. of inches I've lost on the following body parts since Apr 06 (as of last weekend):

Chest: 7.5 down

Waist: 13.5 down

Hips: 10.5 down

R. Thigh: 5.75 down

R. Calf: 3 down

R. Bicep: 2.5 down

Grand total: 43 inches.

The thigh/calf/bicep initally lost more but I've gained a wee bit more but it is now all hard muscle as opposed to soft flabbiness!

Wow! Yoda, it sounds like you are making fabulous progress :clap2: and I liked hearing Dr. Yau's advice about the plateaus, and the inches vs the pounds.:) It made me feel better about not having a scale and relying exclusively on NSVs. (My size 16 skinny jeans are getting a little loose and I just paid for them.:phanvan )

It's too bad I wasn't able to meet you while you were in TO.:cry It would have been fun to meet one of you in the flesh. Oh, well.......

Your drive sounds horrible. The driving conditions yesterday were very bad even down here in the city and we tend to get off lightly when it comes to snowy blizzards. I'm glad that you made it here and back safely.:(

That is an amazing loss Yoda. You should be so proud. :clap2:

I have measured all the same places as you. Except I also added my neck. I hate my neck. :phanvan

What sort of exercises do you do to help out with the inches loss? You mentioned gaining muscle so do you do weights?

Thanks everyone!!!

Yes Green....relying on NSVs is the way to go, I think!

Dame J: exercise has never been a big problem for me....much to everyone's surprise I've always been quite active. These days, I do an hour and a half routine. One hour consists of cardio (ie. elliptical and/or recumbent bike) and this is followed by 30 mins of strength training (weights) and matt work (ie. leg work, ab work). I try and do this 5 times a week. In April I plan on doing aquafit as well....(I'm waiting until Apr because my schedule will allow it at that time).

So, yes....the weight work (and I find the biking) has really toned the muscles.

Yoda,

My internet has been down so I guess I've missed quite alot in the last couple of weeks. I too have been vomiting (and disgusting acid). I wish I had been on the site to know that you had experienced the same feeling. I too have booked a defill but can't get there until 15 Feb. (Doc put me on Ensure yesterday - it's dropping like crazy!)

Glad your defill helped and hope you're feeling better.

Hugs,

Yeah, I think she means her weight.

Angel Bear: hang in there....you'll feel better after your fill. Dr. Y. was absolutely adamant: no vomiting.....should be no reason! I'm not sure why such the long wait for your de-fill....whassup with that? ESPECIALLY for a defill due to problems you are experiencing....they should react right away to that need.

At least your weight dropped.....despite not being able to eat much and not being able to keep much down when I did eat a few morsels....my weight loss was certainly not dropping!! Go figure!! *sigh*!!

Enjoy your Ensure!!! I actually don't mind the chocolate ensure....when I have that (sometimes for breakfast) I add in my choc. Protein Powder, some extra milk and then either a 1/2 bananna or some flavouring extract (orange is my fave)...and then blend it....yummy!

Okay, dah, I kinda thought that's what she meant. Hey, it's early:tired .

Ya, that seems like a long time to wait, a de-fill will only take about 5 minutes or less.:)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
