In A Food Rut!

Recommended Posts

I know this gets asked a lot and I'm sorry. I just can't find what I want with the search function.

I tend to snack between Breakfast / lunch and lunch/dinner. But I'm so stuck on the foods and want to find some more interesting ones. Right now it's usually boiled shrimp or cheese and crackers. I know the crackers are carby so I'm looking for something to substitute.

I do make the cheese chips sometimes and that's good. But still looking for something that I can keep in the fridge and grab for a quick bite. I have been told over and over by my nut that I need to eat fruit because I get constipated all the time. Maybe all the cheese? So if anyone has a good fruit dip, maybe with greek yogurt, that would be great.

Anyway, what are your good, easy, non-constipating non-carby snack foods?

I found the most tasty pesto turkey breast from Sara Lee. Got it at the deli counter. High Protein. Almost no carbs (1) and tastes fantastic. Also weight watcher's has some low fat cheese sticks that are awesome. Once again, low cal, carb, and 6 grams of protein.

Im a snacker too- here are my tops:

  • Turkey Pepperoni chips (miccrowave chips 1-2 min until crispy) keeps for days in ziploc
  • Greek yogurt fruit dip (flavor greek yogurt with SF jam or Torani syrups). Greek yogurt, splenda and carmel or hazlenut Syrup really is amazing!
  • mcDonalds skinny SF iced vanilla late (not a "snack" perse, but awesome none the less
  • Ham & swill roll-ups- make a few and keep in fridge for easy snacking
  • egg muffins (small muffin size crustless quiches)
  • beef jerkey

Most of these can be found at www.theworldaccordingtoeggface.com or search the VST food forum.

food bordem can lead to bad choices.... hope you get some inspiration out of these.

Oh wow thanks guys. Star, the chicken breast sounds great - I will def look for it. Lauranbob: I used to eat fresh mozz and tomatoes a lot - I had forgotten about it. And the cucumber and balsamic sounds delish. Calikat: yes, I have discovered the sugar-free vanilla latte at McD;s. My fave on-the-road treat! And those other suggestions are just what I need. I have done the mini quiches and they are great. I haven't tried the turkey pepperoni but I will and the fruit dip is just what I needed! I don't know why I don't think to go to Eggfaces site. She always has such good ideas. Thanks!!

Check out the recipe section in the main forum. I live on my wendy's chili knockoff version. I make a big pot at least once a month and eat it for Breakfast lunch and dinner sometimes. For Breakfast I may eat it with eggs for lunch, I add cheese to it and for dinner I may bake a small potatoe and add the chili and sourcream to it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
