Had Surgery 5/21, No Weight Loss

Recommended Posts

On my pre-op diet I went from 273 down to 257 when I got home from the hospital. And I haven't lost any weight since then. I'm averaging about 300 calories a day, I do some walking (about 1/2 mile a day, not much) idk what my body's doing... Rebelling I guess

Try to increase your calories, Protein and Water intake.. You may have had some post op swelling that has your weight up a bit.. It WILL come off.. Just takes time sometimes!!!

I know it's distressing. You do something like what we've done and expect to see results quickly. You just went through surgery and are taking like 1/10th of the calories. Just give it a little longer. Stop checking your weight but once a week. My husband had to hide the scale lol. It will come off.

I'm not like distraught, just mildly bummed. I have no problems with Water intake since surgery day. I just gotta wait it out and need moral support I guess

Everyone's body is different, eventually your body will have to catch up to your caloric intake and your exercise. I only lost 10 on my 14 day pre-op and it was a hard 10 - up 2 down 3 up 2 down 1 up 3 down 3. All on 600 calories.

I have given up worrying now. I was losing more on days I was eating during the pre-approval portion. I think after the big loss of your preop diet, plus the ton of iv Fluid you received, the swelling and your body's metabolism slowing down a bit that's bound to happen, but eventually it will all come together. Give yourself time to heal and worry about the weight a month down the road.

Best wishes to you, and congrats and keep walking and it will come off.

It sound funny, but you have to eat more calories

Good luck! I was sleeved the same day and have been experiencing weight loss...but am taking in more calories. About 500 a day, no less than 70g of Protein, no more than 30g of carbs and 10g fat. Not sure if that helps...trying to get to 600+ calories soon. But I know everyone's different so may just be patience :) you'll probably pick you about the time I'm hiring the dreaded 6 week stall. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
