Seeking Mentor/buddy For Texting Pref That Was Over 300 Lbs

Recommended Posts

I am 345-350 lbs ish and I see a lot of people have gotten the sleeve that were 300 lbs or less. I do not invalidate them or think any less of them, but I just want someone from around the same standpoint as me that would know what I am going through. I am 5'6". I just want someone that won't mind texting with me and answering questions and chatting with me and gaining friendship. I do not mind female or male. Maybe even one of each to have different perspectives. I'm not picky other than to have someone who knows what it is like from my weight stand-point. I hope this doesn't sound selfish or rude!

If it's something that makes a difference to you, my phone plan is through Verizon so it is free if you have a texting plan. I think if you don't then it still costs you unless you have a texting plan/unlimited plan.

My highest weight was 273, so a few lbs short... But I just had surgery 5/21 and worked for an excellent bariatric surgeon in a center of excellence for years. If I can help you in any way, send me a pm. If you'd like to text, let me know and I'd b happy to give you my number

I'd love to talk to anybody. My request is not strict, it is just that I would like to talk to at least 1 person that has the weight in common but it's not really all that important :D I'd love to talk to anybody, I love to text and work from home so I have time whenever and can also lend a support for someone else even though I am really far away from my surgery (I think).

Hi I'm over 400lbs and feel the same way as far as having read about other sleevers under 300lbs. So I'd really like to chat with someone like me. Now you're much smaller than me so I don't know if you'd still like to chat. I'm scheduled to get the surgery on June 25. I'm from MI. I just would like to talk to someone that is going through the same process. So let me know if you'd like to chat.Hope to hear from you.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
