I've got a Real Date...

Recommended Posts

I saw my surgeon at Ford Hospital in Michigan, and,,, he hooked me up with my Date to be Banded. 11/02/06. I can 't weight.

He also put me on a Protien Drink Diet for 1 week before surgery.

Any one out there have any suggestions on a good protien drink?

even with flavors would help.

I'm the new kid on the block I guess, so I could use some input.

I started at 356 now at 253 since last October. That's on 1200

calories a day. So that alone is a nice loss, but I can't waite to

be Banded and on my way to a new me, wich will be like the old me.

130 - 150 is fine by me. Shirley

Hi Shirley and Patti! Welcome to LBT!

You both have to be just excited as you can be. I remember that month before banding. OMG! I was a mix of tears and laughter. It's a very emotional time for sure.

To help you get prepared, look into the FAQ and References Forum. You'll find it on the main LBT page if you scroll down a bit. In there are threads which have links to some great information such as what to have on hand before surgery, what the abbreviations that are used here on LBT stand for, and questions to ask your Dr before you get banded.

Be sure to ask lots of questions and keep us posted on your journeys!

CIB - Carnation Instant Breakfast

I used CIB also with skim milk. For the first few days after surgery it was all I could tolerate drinking.

I bought a lot of Protein drinks prior to surgery to try them out, spent a lot of money, and I mean A LOT OF MONEY. But in the end it was for naught because I couldn't drink them

My advice is don't go overboard searching for just the right Protein Drink.

Isopure had a RTD Protein Drink that some folks like. It comes in flavors but the fav seems to be the grape. But again they are kinda expensive.

Good Luck.

Myra

CIB has 130 calories and 5 gms Protein

Horizon Organic FF milk has 90 calories and 9gms Protein

Total calories for one cup milk with one serving CIB 220

Total grams Protein One cup milk with one serving CIB 14

So if you have four servings a day that will be

880 calories and 56 gms protein.

Of course you can tweak this by using lo carb CIB and dairy products. But right after surgery most folks seem to struggle to get enough calories and protein. Of course before surgery is a different story.

Just depends on how many calories and grams of protein your doc wants you to get each day.

Mine wanted 40 - 60 grams protein.

Yes SS, let's keep in touch! I am trying to kill time waiting to be banded, so I have spent tons of time reading up on lapband (and lots of time doing my school work! UUGH). I probably will not have surgery until December or maybe even January. We only have one center for excellence here, so it takes a while for your consult (mine is Oct. 25) and then another couple of months for surgery <sigh> BUT, at least if it is on Christmas break I will not miss any school! :) Keep us updated and I will live vicariously through you while you have yours done and wait totally non-patiently for mine! LOL

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
