Self-Paying Us Doctor

Recommended Posts

I have been denied coverage of my revision of lab band to sleeve. I have been researching Mexico options for self-pay. My husband prefer that I stay in the US, because of after care. Has anyone used a US doctor for a revision that gave a good price for self-pay patients. I will travel anywhere in the US.

Thanks for any information!

Heather

I'm in Houston and my doc is in our medical center here.....he charges 17,700, I'm self-pay too, my insurance has a total exclusion on WLS....it will pay for me to do Optifast, but not WLS, stupid!

There's a Dr in Vegas that charges $10,000 I'll find out his name. I seen several of his patients on another forum. Inbox me if u want the info.

Why would going to Mexico negate any after care in the US? I had my surgery in Mexico, but my PCP is here in the USA and is well versed in bariatrics. FYI.

there are some doctors who refuses to see people who have had WLS in Mexico...I know a couple here in Houston who will refuse to see mexico WLS patients

I have to do Opti-fast too. How is it? I am easing into the pre-op diet. The EAS shakes are too thin. I like Premium shakes from Trader Joe's; they are a lot thicker. I'm hoping that the Opti-fast ones aren't bad...

I chosed to do Medifast instead of Optifast...they are basically the same, but Medifast is more popular....my insurance covered the doctor visits for both...depends on your testing results you do one of 3 plans, 1) eat/drink 4 Meal Replacements and have one lean and green meal, 2) eat/drink 5 Meal Replacements and have one lean and green meal, or 3) eat/drink 4 meal replacements and have 2 lean and green meals....and you can have pickles, SF popsciles, and SF Jello as Snacks....I did it for 4 weeks and lost 25 pounds, but couldn't take it anymore, I wanted to eat food, not drink shakes all the time...

Wow...my "official" pre-op diet starts on the 5th. You can purchase a combination of the shakes, bars & Soups. :(

Sn: Congrats on the 25 lbs!!!

Thanks for all the input! I am still doing my research and praying that my appeal to the insurance company will come back postive, so I don't have to go anywhere else.

Dr. Umbach was my surgeon. But this was my first WLS. If your appeal is denied, definitely contact him & see his pricing for revisions.

I like the Optifast better than any of the other Protein shakes out there.

Exactly what do you mean by "going out of the US is not what others make it seem".....please do not make blanket statements like this, it can be confusing to the newbies on this board.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
