Liquid stage: how many oz. is your protein drink?

Recommended Posts

So I've got two weeks left on the liquid stage. My crazy doctor requires 3 weeks of liquids, 3 weeks of mushies, and a fill before you eat regular food. What I'm confused about is how big my Liquid Protein drink should be. The nutrionist said 4 oz. and while I can understand that once I'm on mushies, it makes no sense for Protein drinks. If I only did 4 - 4 oz Protein Drinks a day I'd be way under the level of protein and calories I need in a day. I'm already down 11 pounds in 10 days. If I do 8 oz and sip I seem to have no problems, especially if I take my time over 15-20 minutes.

What did you do?

Thanks!

Britt

The Protein Drink I took was over 8oz in size, and I was allowed to have as many ounces of other fluids as I wanted. I wasn't given a restriction on Fluid levels at all. I was also allowed to mix my Protein drink with other drinks, etc. I would take my protein drinks 3 times a day, and then I had additional Protein Powder I bought that was tropical fruit flavor and mixes clear/thin in Water or juice. I also drank v-8 juice, skim milk, and dannon silhoutte yogurt drinks. I had about 1200-1400 calories total a day, and I aimed for 80-100 grams of protein a day. Protein is really important when you are healing post surgery. I did lose weight during that time as well, and protein keeps you feeling full, so little bits of protein continually throughout the day was key for me to keep me from feeling hungry.

I used the Isopure and it has 8 oz servings per 2 scoops. You can always 1/2 the serving and drink as you can until you work upto what your supposed to drink. Isopure has 50 grams of Protein and 300 calories plus it tastes like chocolate milk. :o

Best of luck to ya!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
