Ha ha. I'm a big Mexican fan. I'm not ready yet, but I have visions of doing some refried Beans, bit of low fat sour cream, cheese, and mashed avo on top once I'm at puréed :)

Where are you in the process? I eat Mexican food all the time, almost daily, in fact. I don't eat a lot of it, but I definitely do eat it--it's one of my husband's and my favorite meals. I usually eat a few corn chips with cheese dip and salsa and a couple spoons of Beans. My husband can tolerate meat, so he eats a couple of tacos. No big deal--and my sleeve LOVES it, which is a good thing.

Awesome! Only about 11 days in. Surgeon wants no mush for another 9, though NUT is encouraging trying sooner. So excited to hear mex agrees with ya! Will def have to find some ways to do healthy versions where possible. I grew up in San Diego (now on east coast) so it was a staple :)

I craved Mexican food so bad starting at a few days into the pre-op liquid diet. I kept craving it until I could actually eat it. Still, at 8 weeks out, all I really want to eat is Mexican and seafood.

Well I tried some nachos (3 or 4 chips) and salsa when I started solids. My sleeve loved it, but I soon realized that might be my slider food, coz it went down very easy for me. I'm staying away just in case. But salsa is great - so you could try it once in a while when you are in mushed/solids phase.

I know the feeling when u want that kinds of food but of using sour cream how come u don't use Greek yogurt? They taste the same but the Greek yogurt has more Protein

Sold! I've got some in the fridge and will try it out. Never had it before but seems like quite a staple, so I'd bought some to try. Thx for the tip!

I've tried the Greek yogurt substitute and wasn't a big fan. I'll stick to low/no fat sour cream. :-)

Mexican food was always my weakness, so as soon as I hit the mushy stage I tried refried Beans with a little pico de gallo mixed in. Great!! Then when I hit the soft food stage I had half of a cheese enchilada. It was very good, but I filled up very quickly and did not crave it after that. Then I went on to a soft taco....a real treat, since I had been craving the lettuce. I stay away from chips though. Too harsh on the sleeve.

I just had some refried Beans with ground beef, avocado and a bit of cheese. i used a few Trader Joe's blue corn tortilla chips to scoop it up with. That was lunch. I usually eat something healthier, but that wasn't so bad. I came back from a ride and was hungry!

costco has a great chipotle Greek yogurt dip that tastes amazing! I get falafel chips from Trader Joe's to dip into it, because they taste great, aren't as bad nutritionally as other chips, and they have Protein.

When you're in the mushy stage, you can use the dip on Beans with salsa for a hit of flavor with extra Protein. I haven't seen it anywhere else and am out of it so I can't give a name right now, but if you have a costco membership, you'll find it with the guacamole and other dips.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
