I... Want... Mexican Food!

Recommended Posts

I've tried the Greek yogurt substitute and wasn't a big fan. I'll stick to low/no fat sour cream. :-)

I have a better substitution. Make your own sour cream with cottage cheese:

2 Tbl. milk

1 Tbl. lemon juice

1 cup cottage cheese

Blend until smooth. Refrigerate.

That's it.

It's super easy and really tastes like sour cream. And of course, you can use low-fat/non-fat versions of the milk and cottage cheese. Generally, it has about half the calories and twice the Protein of sour cream, depending what products you use.

Don't know what stage you're in, but try Lundbergs Sea Salt Rice chips in place of tortilla chips. Taste great and mush less carbs and gluten-free too. I still eat mexican food every so ofte, but don't have a taste for the rice anymore since VSG, which is good cuz cuts down on the carbs.

This thread is like my new food porn, lol. Thankfully I'm feeling like a tbsp of refried Beans and a dollop of Greek yogurt will do it for me in another week or so when sleevie is ready. But, oh the fantasizing is brilliant :)

Mexican food is my kryptonite.. there's this hole in the wall mexican place in downtown Dayton of all places that is better than any Mexican I ever had in Phoenix and I tried a lot. They make their tortilla's fresh -including the chips. The chimichanga is freaking huge...and it's 7.50 for a chimichanga, rice, and the best refried Beans I've ever had and a good amount of their fresh made pico. MMM....DAMN this thread! good thing Taqueria Mixteca is closed or I'd so be there right now! lol...

We make chicken tacos or ground turkey tacos... Delicious! Fat free refried Beans & fat free or lowfat cheese is good too!

If you are on full liquids, throw chicken broth, milk, fully roasted veggies, roasted potatoes ( if you are not doing low carb), chicken breast, taco seasoning, sour cream or Greek yogurt, and cheese ( if you se desire) into a blender. Purée ( and strain if needed) makes a fantastic soup!! Especially with a dollop of sour cream and some extra cheese on the top.

You can easily change the flavoring to Indian or whatever by changing up spices too!!!

This recipe got me through the liquid phase!!!

I have the same cravings being Mexican, during pureed stage refried Beans with melted cheese, a little salsa and FF sour cream hit the spot and my sleeve loved it. Now I enjoy a small soft taco or a little taco salad made with ground turkey, lettuce, Tomato, grated cheese and salsa, or a chile relleno omelette, just sautee a little onion and canned chopped green chiles, add one egg to make the omelette and top with low fat shredded mexican cheese. Totally low carb and high Protein.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
