Dr Kelly's Pre-Op Diet

Recommended Posts

I'll be sleved by Dr Kelly on June 7.

I'm a bit confused about what I can eat and how much. I did start liquids only yesterday. I'm having Atkins shakes and Cream of whatever Soups. How much can I have?

My last 3 pre-op days are clear liquids...that's very straight forward.

Although I have not posted before, I have been reading about your experiences long enough to help me decide to go ahead with my sleeve and Dr Kelly. Thank you all

What's your BMI? I think he only gives the pre-op diet for larger patients. He didn't give me one, my BMI was 49 but I did my own pre-op diet and lost 10 lbs in 2 weeks. I just did Protein Shakes then a regular dinner. It was supposed to be just meat and veggies but it was bad food, but I still lost and stuck strictly to the 3 day pre-op diet. That's very important. Most important in fact.

Alp50 we have a June compilation section and there are two that are having surgery the day after you with Dr. Kelly, Cristal602 and

Crystalaine, maybe they will have some sort of ideal to help you out.

My diet is much stricter than yours, I'm allowed 3 Protein shakes a day and sugar-free popsicles and Jello. I just know that my calories = a little over 600 a day and it's a 14 day pre-op shake diet. My surgery date is June 4th.

Be careful with the cream Soups because of the high carb & fat content, and hopefully someone knows better what Dr. Kelly expects than me.

I added you to the June Compilation list located here with all the June sleevers.

Thanks, I eating as little as possible....but I've always had a huge appetite. I'm being very careful with fats and cars, but a guy's gotta eat!

My BMI is 37...but I'm diabetic and already had an MI.

I only had the 3 day liquid diet (because my BMI was lower) but with that I just had liquid when I felt hungry, no real restriction on how much. The idea is to shrink your liver, and as long as you stick with the items he says you can have, then you are fine doing a bit more!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
