My First Disclosure...

Recommended Posts

Outside of my immediate family and my bff, I have not told anyone that I will be sleeved until today. I was talking with a co-worker about end of year pressures and such and the conversation turned to summer plans. She asked if I was going away and before I knew it I told her that I planned to spend my summer recuperating from surgery. She was very concerned and then I told her about the sleeve and what I hoped to achieve through the surgery. She was very supportive. Now, let's see how fast this travels through the rumor mill.

Lol, I purposely told the biggest loud mouth in our department, specifically so she could get the word out. Ironically, two other nurses have come out of the closet about their plans to have WLS too. The truth shall set you free.

I too made my first real disclosure this week. It was to someone who I'd heard was having the surgery as well. It actually felt good to talk to someone outside of my family about it. At this point, I'm over the whole thing of wondering what other people will say and think. Don't get me wrong. I'm not going to advertise my surgery, but if asked, I will certainly admit it.

I told my family and bf and SIL and there she had told everyone else. :) Love the telephone line theory. My nephew asked me how I was losing my weight and my SIL told him I was eating healthy and I added in that I had WLS. I really don't care what people think. But if my story can help someone else, then why not share. It's my choice and boy am I really happy about it too! I love how I look and feel right now.;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
