Changes In Body Temperature... Normal?

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on May 29th and i keep having hot flashes and the get really cold. Im not running fever- Im on an antibiotic to prevent infection. My guess would be just a reaction to anesthesia and all of the trauma by body went through. Thoughts?

I didn't have hot flashes, but I've always been cold, both pre and post-op. It's June 1 in South Florida, which means 90 degree days. I have on long pants, socks, two t-shirts and a light sweater to sit by my computer with the windows open. Yeah, I'm colder now than pre-op, I think. :)

I don't know if I'd call it hot flashes, but I definantly have been hot, cold, hot, cold. One minute I'm freezing, put a jacket on, then the next 10 minutes I'm sweating! Can't get regulated! I feel you on this one. I'm wondering if it has to do with not eating??

I have always been warm blooded, it was really bad after the surgery. I froze everyone out at my house and had to take 2 showers a day! It passed about 2 weeks after surgery. The more weight I lose, the colder I get! Yeah!!!

I was also sleeved on the 29th. Have been freezing. My temp has also been up a bit. Either 99 or 100..nothing I am worried about yet. Seems to be just in the evening it spikes a touch. They told me unless I was running 101 not to worry about it. I also weighed myself today. I actually weigh more than when I went in but I assume its cause of all the fluids built up from the Iv's etc. Hope thats normal.

So assuming you are not anemic, when you reduce your caloric intake your body stops using stored calories to keep you warm. It starts using those collectors to protect vital organs which is what it should have been doing all along. So it is a good sign for us to be cold. If we are healthy in all other ways. Going from hot to cold though. That I don't know :-)

no- not anemic. And I guess its not really hot flashes per se- just more hot one minute then cold the next. The only time it really bothers me is when Im sleeping and wake up in a sweat pool. ICK.

I can't believe I did a random google search for this and found this site. I had my sleeve done Sept. 19. I'm freezing one minute, and sweating the next. At least I know it's not just me.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
