Hi Fellow Sleevers,

I am considering hiring a personal trainer.

I need some advise.

How much should I expect to pay per hour?

(I live in the Atlanta, Georgia area.)

How often should work out with the trainer, for maximum effect?

Your recommendations will be highly appreciated.

Thanks!

My husband works out with a trainer once a month and gets a new plan for the next month each time. That's $75 a session. I used to work out twice a week with a trainer and that was $50 a session. So, there's a huge range of options. I would highly recommend going to a well-known chain and having a free consultation. They can give you a LOT of choices. Be honest about your budget.

My BF and I have a trainer- we meet 5x week for an hour of training! We get a killer rate of $1000/month for everything! When we were just on a week-to-week basis we were paying $55/hr for individual workouts.

4x week we meet at the gym- Mondays & Wednesdays I stregnth train with him (those days my BF does the cardio that the trainer recommends) Tuesdays & Thursdays I do the cardio and the BF does the weight training with trainer.

1x week we do an outside activity.... 2hr bike ride, 5k race, mini triathalon, etc....

When you work with a trainer, make sure they are comfortable with you and vice versa. Make sure they understand your goals and make a plan to get there together. Dont settle for soneone who is going to push their fitness mantra, their products or their lifestyle. You can find many independent certified trainers on Craigslist or even ones at your local gym.

The more time you can commit to the lower hourly rate they can offer. Also if you go to them or to a gym they frequent you can reduce their travel time, if one of your neighbors use one you can usually get a reduced rate also.

Torose,

I am not sure if I am doing anything "special" or different. I try to eat my Protein (60g) , then vegetable, then starch. I also try to drink 64 ounces of

Water, very little juice and I don't drink soda. I try to work out everyday but realistically, I average 3-4 days per week on the elipitical, for 25 minutes. I don't eat more than 1 cup of food per meal. I eat 3-4 meals per day and I eat fruits. I don't drink alcohol, also. I attend a monthly support meeting, visit my dietician and doctor, for follow-up visits and tests. Also, I try to track my food and exercise on www.MyFitnessPal.com.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
