I have taken Prozac for quite a while, but had to stop prior to surgery. Now I'm 14 days post-op and not sure what to do. Do I restart? They're capsules. Do I get on another? I'm confused. My pcp basically left it up to me. :/

Do you need them? If so, I would check with your pharmacist, but will probably be able to open them in apple sauce to take them.

I am on Viibryd which is the new form of Prozac. I resumed taking them 1 week after surgery and have had no issues. As long as its not bigger than an m&m then you can swallow it.

I just got my Wellbutrin changed from Slow Release to the regular formula. Going to crush them with a mortar and pestle for post-op. The pharmacy helped by double checking my meds, telling me whether the formula needed to be changed or not. I definitely would not stop taking anything but rather find a way that works. Hopes this helps.

I am on prozac as well and am 2 wks post op today too. [= When i left my doc gave me the Prozac in a liquid with enough to last until i can swallow the capsule. I would suggest talking to ur doc asap because when you stop so suddenly and dont restart quickly there are mood swings.

Im really surprised that the doc didnt give you a liquid or crushable! Going off an antidepressant is tough enough but it must be horrible while recovering and having all of these post op feelings. Dont be afraid to speek up and tell the doc you need something!

I started taking my pills about three days post-op. I only had one that was larger than an M&M but I took it anyways as it really wasn't that big. No problems. Check with your pharmacist before crushing or breaking open pills as that could negatively affect how the medication is delivered into your system (ie, some are time time released).

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
