my 7 day pre-op diet started today, for my surgery next Thursday. I am drinking my very first Protein Shake (pure Protein French vanilla powder from sams mixed with unsweetened almond milk) already I am not a fan. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make this stuff more tolerable?

I use the vanilla or chocolate light silk. Gives a little more depth. Also I've added sf pudding mix (about a Tbs) to it. Makes it more palatable. During my pre-op phase I drank the atkin's brand shakes. They are pretty tasty. After surgery moved to different ones because not enough Protein in just one. You have to try different ones and tweek them to what you can stomach. Congratulations on your date and good luck.

I am on Day 9 of 14 and the Magic Bullet blender helps a lot! I use ice, Water and 2 scoops of bariatrics Best or Unjury for 30g - 42g of Protein in 1 eight oz shake. I drink 2 a day and eat a high protein low carb dinner and I have lost 10 pounds.....

The crushed up ice make the difference for me....no ice= no good!! :)

Thanks I will try the sugar free pudding. I like Atkins shakes but by doctor specifically told me to avoid Atkins, ensure, slim fast etc since they have little Protein, high calories, carbs or fat. Which is why they all taste yummy lol I bought muscle milk light that I am going to try for my next meal since that is ready to drink, and I bought two other brands of rtd to try. Only this one huge container of powder though lol.. I don't know why 2 lbs is the smallest container of protein powder! Thanks for the advice!

Oh I have a magic bullet and will try them blended with ice, after surgery I was told to only use a shaker cup since the blender would cause gas pains.. But good idea to get me through the 7 days =)

I like the Creamy chocolate Slimfast / Slim-rite(generic) - it's got carbs in though - but what I do is I mix in Optimum Nutrition -the best tasting Protein powder I've ever tasted, and it tastes awesome. I have the chocolate Coconut.

I do this 3x a day.

I get about 75 carbs a day, 15 fat, 800 calories, 95 Protein.< /p>

I use Isopure Zero Carb Protein Powder... two scoops has 50 grams of protein. I use skim milk, almond milk or soy milk (Silk) and 4 ice cubes. Plus, I peel and freeze bananas wrapped in foil and then put the frozen banana in my blender with the milk and powder.... makes the shake much more creamy and satisfying. And if I feel that I need just alittle more flavor... I add a spoonful of creamy Peanut Butter for some extra protein. Make sure that you are drinking plenty of Water also. And I have a frozen banana when I am craving something sweet for dessert... eat it like a popsicle.

Hope this helps.

Cheers!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
