NJsharon 119 Posted May 31, 2012 I need to get my teeth cleaned & I am 3 weeks post-op. I read somewhere about if we get our teeth cleaned or any work on our teeth we should have antibiotics first? Is that true & if so why? If I do need antibiotics then who do I go to for them... my PCP or the dentist?
Candyman 38 Posted May 31, 2012 I haven't heard that. I know if you have a new heart valve you need to.
robin33 71 Posted May 31, 2012 I take antibiotics before all dental work and surgeries because I have a heart mumur. Tell your dentist about the procedure and if needed, he will prescribe them. I usually take 4 - 500 mg. amoxcillin 1 hour before any dental work.
kyllfalcon 768 Posted May 31, 2012 I've had a total knee replacement and have to have antibiotics before dental cleaning. But not a word was said about it in reference to WLS.

Chuckles 28 Posted May 31, 2012 That's interesting, I will add it to question list for my surgeon, because my regular screening is 4 weeks postop.
