Well, I need to refrain from my super fruity, girly cocktails and shots!!! I'm a karaoke DJ, so I get drinks and shots all show... I can only have 2 drinks... maybe 2 shots... but nothing else!!!

I am also 6 weeks out, and have tried a few sips of wine here and there with no bad effects even tried a beer but only got through about a quarter of it, before it got warm and I lost interest. I have had no side effects. Since we still have our duodenum we wouldn't have the same reaction to alcohol that some one with a RNY woul dhave. I agree though don't over do it. I am interested to hear about trying Jack on ice. I was a big whickey person before surgery. I haven't had it in months do to pre op and none since surgery but I am interested in how it affected someone post op.

wow that is a lot of typos!! Sorry everyone!

i had my sleeve on 4/23 and i had a couple of beers the other day without any issue at all. what is the prohibition against beer?

It's because it's carbonated. Some dr's don't want any carbonation at all... Ever. My dr says just open it an hour before. Though I've drank nothing carbonated yet

Do you feel the faster than before or is your body reacting the same as before?

I love wine and it works just fine. I waited until 6 months out to try a margarita--it was fine, except WOW, alcohol hits so much harder than it did preop! Just be careful. It's going to be really easy to overdo, and your inhibitions may lower a LOT faster than they did before. I used to could drink a margarita and just feel a little more relaxed; now, 1/2 of one, and I'm in full-on "must sleep now" mode--yeah, I'm a party animal--NOT. I'm one of those sleepy drinkers, LOL. So just be aware--your lower body weight makes a big difference in your alcohol tolerance.

I was a social drinker prior to surgery. I waited until about 3 months post-op (my doc said 3-6 months, so I opted for the 3!). :) I have drank beer, wine, mixed drinks, etc. with no problems. I avoid too much fruity/high calorie options and prefer either vodka/diet tonic, light beer, or rum/diet soda. I know that it will likely slow down my weight loss, but just as I've learned how to eat differently and in moderation, I'm not going to deny myself an important social aspect of my life either.

My Dr. said I had to wait a year to have liquor :( 7 weeks post op and went out last night for the first time post op. I had Iced Tea while all my friends had cocktails. I handled it well but after reading these posts I might speak to my dr and see if I can have a drink at my brothers wedding in 2 months.... fingers crossed!
