When my surgeon close me up, he used stitches. They told me to keep them covered until the stitches came out (with bandage changes of course). I had to stop covering them up. I got the worst rash/irritation and blisters from the tape. It is so itchy and uncomfortable. What should I use to stop the discomfort?? . I have never had any problems before...could it be because I used it for so many days?Ahhhh...Help.

I went to drug warehouse and got some large ouchless bandaids. The tape was tearing my skin up terribly. The ouchless bandaids worked good without the pain. Hope this helps.

I'm allergic to surgical tape, so I always let them know. I get the same symptoms. I'd call your surgeon's office and ask. They may advise you to buy some "paper" medical tape to replace the surgical.

go to surgical supply place and get skin prep wipes. It helps to prevent the rashes and blisters the same happen to me if i leave the bandage or tape to long.

Go to a pharmacy or medical supply store. The amount of time you had it on shouldn't have been an issue unless you are allergic to the tape. You can call the pharmacy etc to see if they carry "paper tape" it is what they put on those that are allergic. (I love that paper tape personally) it's good to keep it covered if that is what your doc wants. Good luck!

I have a severe tape allergy, even to paper tape. I have to use this special burn creme(silver sulfide) when I have any bandages on an area for more than a few hours. My surgeon is going to use some type of derma bond glue. I just hope I don't have a reaction to it.

I am also allergic to most adhesives. I noticed that the clear patch they use on an IV didn't bother me so I went to CVS and got several boxes of them. They are called tegaderm. Also I asked my surgeon to use glue this time.

My surgeon used dermabond on my incisions because of my adhesive allergy. No problems as of today, 8 days post-op!

I wish I had some suggestions for OP's rash. Nothing worked on my reaction. I just had to wait it out.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
