squiggle 1 Posted August 29, 2006 no long term experience with this, sorry. however, can't antibiotics sometimes cause or worsen diarrhea?
CateyP 0 Posted August 29, 2006 That's one thing my surgeon warned me could happen -- diarrhea from the antibiotics they use during surgery, combined with having a primarily liquid diet. Diarrhea is so dehydrating, so please be sure to get enough liquids to make up for it, and keep after the doctor if you don't improve. Get well soon!
pbrown 0 Posted August 29, 2006 Hi, I had diarrhea for a couple of days about 4 days after my surgery. It went away the next day as I was told I could eat yogurt and slim fast, which I did and the diarrhea stopped. I was told this is common because of the clear liquid diet. nz_sunset 0 Posted August 29, 2006 I think i have tried everything it is now 5 weeks the reason i was tested for c-diff was because of the antibiotics but the tests were neg. i thought it was because of the "liquids" but im not on liquids anymore, my surgeon is baffled as he has never had this happen before...i think its because of my gall bladder removal with all the bile in my stomach it keeps bubbling up and causing problems im now on anti reflux tablets they are working but i think its hiding the problem as when they wear off im back to stage 1. thanks everyone for your help/concern. squiggle 1 Posted August 29, 2006 you know, you could be onto something... http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/gallbladder-removal/AN00067 maybe you could ask your doctor about the mentioned prescription drugs to see what he thought? in the meantime, you could certainly add some benefiber or something to the foods that you are able to tolerate now. perhaps having something 'beefier' in your intestines might give the bile salts something to grab onto? i wouldn't think that Fiber would cause any problems if it doesn't work, as long as you don't go crazy with it.
