Stalled For 3 Weeks At 4.5 Months Out - Up Calories? Cut Fat? Cut Carbs? More Exercise?

Recommended Posts

I called my nutritionist because I am in a stall at 4 1/2 months. The scale has been at 180 for 3 weeks! She told me to cut out the 1 oz of cheese I eat every other day. After reading that healthy fats and Protein are the way to go, I'm wondering if I shouldn't be cutting the carbs instead, I eat 30% fat, 30% carbs and 40% Protein. She says that my food choices are very healthy, but I should be eating no more than 25% fat. She also doesn't think I'm only eating 800 +/- 50 calories a day. I measure carefully, read labels and enter the into into Fitday.com.

I do know that I need to step up the daily exercise. I hike like a mad person on the weekends - up and down the local mountains until my muscles are pretty sore.

I don't know what's right anymore. Did anyone have a stall like this? Yes, I have seen the boot camp thread, but I'm wondering if this can't be cured another way. I'd like to know what I might be doing wrong.

We were sleeved on the same day and I could have written your post!!! I have been stuck at 186 for almost a month!!!!! I'm trying not to freak out but the longer the scale doesn't move the more worried I get. Prior to this stall, it seemed the more I exercised the slower the weight loss was so I completely stopped exercising. I'm going to start back exercising tomorrow and keep my calories at 800 and see what happens within the next week I have tried raising and lowering my calories to no avail. It's so frustrating being in a stall, especially this soon out. Although I am so please with my weight loss, I would like to hit my next mini goal of 175 within the next few weeks. Please keep me posted on what works to break your stall as I will do the same.

Oh thank goodness. It does look like we are sleeve twins. I thought I was the only one with this long of a stall at only 4.5 months. I don't know what to do except to get more daily exercise and cut the carbs even deeper. I barely eat any as it is.

I have been stuck at 178 for weeks too and I'm about four months out. I barely eat and when I work out I swear I gain. I do feel like I'm losing muscle now even though I swim a lot.

I have lost inches. I know that, but you'd think the actual poundage would begin to move again eventually. When I work out hard (5-6 hours of strenuous hiking), a do gain a couple pounds and then it goes away after my muscles release the Water they use during repair. The weight goes from 180 to 182 or 3 and then back down to 180 and has been doing that for the last 3 weeks. ARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!

Stalls are so maddening. My most disheartening stall happened just 6 weeks out from surgery, and lasted 3 weeks.

There are all kinds of "tricks" you can try to break the stall. Anything to change up what you are doing might be enough (increase calories, decrease calories, increase exercise, decrease exercise). But I honestly think trying to break a stall is almost more frustrating than the stall itself. In my experience, it's best to just keep your nose to the grindstone. It sounds like you have a well balanced diet, you exercise, and you eat about 800 calories a day - correct? Keep it up. The stall will break. Eventually. Just keep up the healthy lifestyle and trust the process.

I know it is so maddening. I hope your scale budges soon. In the meantime, congrats on the inches lost! That's great!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
