Glad to hear that everything went well for you.... was wondering what blood tests were done?

They run a full blood panel, and chest x-rays. I emailed Dr. Alvarez a few weeks after my surgery and he emailed me my reports. Of course they are in Spanish, but they can be deciphered, or you can find someone to help you with them if needed.

Ok, 2nd day post op.....

I feel so,so... My belly feels really bloated and sore, like I did too many crunches. I had grape juice/watered down before I left the hosp this morning. Not my drink of choice, so I got a Vitamin Water, one of my favorite drinks, and 8 hrs later I am still nursing it. I tried to drink some of the Unjury chick broth, but have only consumed less than half, and it taste pretty good also.

I know its only day 2. I dont feel nausea, unless I drink say 2-3 swallows of something tooo fast I guess. Just a weird feeling. I also feel like I want to have a GOOD BURP, but it wont come :/

Getting ready for my flight in the morning and back to real life..

Once you are home, things will begin to feel better. Sip slowly, remember your tummy is tiny and has just begun to heal. Lots of weird feelings and sounds from this surgery. You will get used to them. ;) burping is one sign, for me, that I have eaten enough. Funny how our body will give us a signal to stop! Good luck to you. Try to rest up today because traveling home is pretty exhausting!

Thanks allnewme......

Ok 4 days post op... And I still feel yucky.. I know its to be expected.

I'm trying to sip, sip, sip and have even incorporated a shot glass so that I dont take too much, but I still feel super nausea with every swallow. I got no walking in yesterday besides the bathroom and up and down the stairs to get meds. I was totally drained yesterday, today also but will force myself to walk after this post. Maybe getting in 30 mls if that...

I'm not hungry in the least, but feel like I could chew something, guess it's how puppies feel :))

Going to walk now, maybe it will help...

Hello!

I just joined the group and have been busy reading everyone's posts and soaking up all the great and generous information provided. I am newly considering VSG with Dr. Alvarez, found out about it researching the lap band(my cousin was urging me to have it done after her lap band success) and watching his youtube videos. I just cant get my mind around the idea of having that foreign device willingly implanted and the ensuing "maintenance" so now after learning about VSG I have myself completely talked out of it! I'm currently trying to gain my husbands support and researching finances. I've never been much of a money saver and know it will take me FOREVER to save up $9000, especially since I'm currently unemployed! I've already been shot down for the lapband procedure by my insurance here in the states, so I know VSG surgery in Mexico is not going to be approved either..I've read a lot of folks get it financed and the interest rates and terms vary a lot. Just wondering what kind of monthly payments people have?? Also...am I correct in that some people have applied for credit through Dr. Alvarez's website, been approved, then denied credit?? Craziness....

Hey just so you know...I am financing, and I went thru the MedToGo international financing site. It specifically approves for surgeries in Mexico. I was approved in 5 days....here are the terms they gave me Specific to Mexico: must pay 24% of total requested as down payment, then 4 years at 16% interest....enough to pay over the minimal payment to cut some of the interest off. They were very quick in response, and of the 24% you put down, you get about 80% of it back via check when the loan is paid off.

worth looking into to. Just do some research for Lenders that Specifically do surgeries in Mexico and you can find something that will work for you. :-)

Anyways I haven't made d actual application but this information sure does come in handy. I will surely continue this process, thanks again. R u having the surgery w Dr Alvarez? Also if u don't mind, r u having contact w Robert Page as well from Med to go international?

Hope you are feeling some better now. It really dies get better each day. The tiredness hangs on for awhile, at least it has for me. I still feel like I need a nap most days. I am sick with allergies now, so that is not fun. Hopefully you are doing better with liquids. I found plain Water made me nauseous. I had to dilute down apple juice or green tea (really diluted) and that helped me to get more fluids in. Take your Zantac morning and evening, that will help you feel better.

Hi everyone.... Post op day 9 ... this has really been rough

I haven't posted because I really haven't made too much in the way of improvements. I'm 1 wk 2 days post op and should be able to start full fluids but still cannot tolerate CLEARS.... My urine is light tea colored and I only pee once a day, and I totally feel like CRAP.

I have contacted the Dr. and am doing everthing I have been instructed to do, but this body is not cooperating.

I sip, sip, sip and only abt a half a sip per sip at that and by the time I've sipped 8 times over abt a 30min period I feel horrible...

The nausea is worst then when I was pregnant with my daughter. I actually took a pregnancy test (negative of course) because that is the last time I experienced nausea like this.

I've followed this to the T, and still I feel like no progress.......

This is the first time I have actually done something for my self, and I feel so DEFEATED right now..

I like many others only told immediate family (hubby the kids- not even my mom) and I know my husband is trying but he said today you are so weak, and you can't even drink the water..was this really worth it?

And I said through tears, I think it will be... but honestly I'm not so sure anymore?

Have you asked Dr. About nausea meds? I was never nauseous at all, I really feel so bad for you. I know that Water is not easy on your new tummy. I would try green tea with some sugar. Try it warm or put it over ice if you need to. That was all I could drink my first week home. You have to get some liquids in so you don't get dehydrated. I would not worry about Protein right now. You need something that is calming for your tummy. It may sound strange but I tend to get nauseous easy and you can buy some SeaBands at pharmacies or Walmart. They work on a pressure point on your arm. Have your husband get a pair to see if it can counteract the nausea. They are cheap and worth trying. I have to use them when we cruise and they work great. I will be praying for you!

I haven't been here in a while. I am 5 wks post op and I must say my road was not as easy as I thought it would be. I have lost 31 lbs in 1 month, but must say I am not as happy about it as I thought I would be. For the first 3 wks I really couldn't tolerate anything due to the most horrible nausea you could imagine. I also should have taken more time off from work, as 2 wks was not enough, especially since I didn't bank on having the nausea complication. I returned to work 2 wks ago, and I am still not able to take in the amt of Fluid I should be, and the semi solids are not going too well. I look like I lost wt due to sickness, not from diet- my face actually looks a bit gaunt, and my butt is losing it's air, going a bit flat ;(.

I feel really tired, and when I get home from work, I am wiped out. Pretty much because I have a very hands on job with lifting, pulling, on my feet and I'm not really getting in liquids or food, or not nearly the amt I should. And the Protein, ahhh the protein- not happening... I am cranky and very irritable ( almost like a non stop PMS). I really wish I could have stayed home longer, to be able to take time to try the fluids more and experiment with foods to see what works, it's kinda hard to do this in 30 mins with people calling you back early from break, if you are lucky enough to get one. I try, and will continue to try, as I hear it gets better.

I just wish I felt better, but even with all of this, I don't regret my decision.

Dr Alvarez and his team were excellent. I travelled alone and felt very comfortable.

I just wish I could have continued to feel as good as I felt when I was there.

I welcome suggestions and comments.

It sounds like you have a very challenging job. I am sorry you are going through this. With regard to diet and liquids, don't be too hard on yourself, just do the best you can. Also, are you taking all of your recommended Vitamins? I find that makes a big difference for me.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
