My Doc really doesn't like us to drink until an hour after we eat. He wants us to be able to feel 'full' and have that sensation for awhile.

Try testing this for yourself. I ate dinner tonight and felt very satisfied when I quit but I forgot to wait to drink and I gobbled down a glass of crystal light. I was hungry less than 20 minutes later. But if I wait atleast an hour after I eat to drink anything then the full feeling sticks with me much longer.

This is new for me to learn!!!! not only that it limits your food intake, but it keeps you feeling full for a longer period of time!!! :clap2:

I will try this today at dinner and see how it goes :biggrin1:

btw, do you get the fullness sensation when you are almost at the end of your meal or is it when you feel pain that you stop eating?

Regards,

Dana

Well, I only have 1 cc in my 4cc band so Im not really feeling alot of restriction right now. I go in for another fill tomorrow. I've also learned that the feeling I've always known as "full" is actually called "gorged" I know now that I don't have to be gorged every time I eat. I stop when I feel that satisfied sensation because I know there will be more meals

i try not to drink for 30 or more minutes after i eat. i do take a few sips sometimes. i try to drink first, then eat. i dont eat much so it doesnt matter if it pushes it through my band. i get full after 5 or 6 bites of anything. i only eat in the evening. i drink Protein Shakes during the day.

I must admit that I have starting drinking warm liquids with my meals. If I did not start out with hot tea/coffee then I would not be able to eat anything, then if I feel kinda stuck after the first bite (first bite syndrome) I will take another sip or two. Not every day/meal, but sometimes I do. Especially around my time of the month, and if I am going out to lunch with someone that does not know about my band.

I drink cold liquids after my food has settled and stop an hour before eating so I can "prime my band".

I don't drink during my meal but I do drink before and usually take two small sips after my meal. This does not seem to have slowed my wt loss or caused me to be hungry any sooner.

Let's face it gang...we are all creatures of habit!! lol Liquids go with meals, except for bandsters. My doctor says drink sips of Water as often as I can...even right up to a meal. But no liquids for about 30 minutes afterwards. I have to ask my waitress to not bring me anything to drink...because out of habit....I get to talking and automatically reach for a glass of liquid. If it's not there, I don't miss it ( that's not strictly true, I do miss it... but am trying to adapt and break the habit because it's what is best for me). Same thing with chewing.....( 3 meals a day with no in between Snacks is not for me...I have to eat my tiny meals about every three hours or I find that I eat too fast..and suffer the consequences...yuk!!) When eating and talking....I forget to slow down and chew, chew, chew! Habit is to just shovel it in and reach for a hot buttered roll!!! lol I am slowly but surely recognizing that I paid a hell of a lot of money for this procedure, and it is just a tool for me to use, the rest is up to me!

great poll

I just had surgery in August and have been struggling with this, I couldn't figure out when I was going to have time to drink:eek:

I don't usually drink during my meal unles it's just a sip or 2, and I don't drink for 30 - 45 minutes after, but I was having a hard time not drinking anhour before meals, now I feel better about that, think I won't worry about it so much as long as I control drinking during and after my meals

thanks to all for the info

I had that stretching pulling pain around my port area, if that is where it is my doc said it was the stitches coming loose but not to worry because by now the tissue is holding that port. I had surgery on June 7th. I also have that side ache kinda, I really don't know what that is.

I don't drink with my meals unless its something hella' spicy. I wait at least an half an hour before drinking but a lot of times I forget altogether and end up drink 4 or 5 hrs after my meal.

I've been doing a lot better with the drinking thing lately. Sometimes i drink at dinner but I usually eat dinner at 10pm and go to bed right after so I drink then. But at lunch I have stopped all together.

I have been drinking with meals, but I'm going to stop because it does not make me feel good at all. I thought it would help when food got stuck, but it does make it worse.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
