Whats Considered Full Liquids?

Recommended Posts

I started my full liquid diet today yeah!! I am wondering what exactly is a full liquid? This morning I had a yogurt that I blended with some milk to make it thin. Could I do the same with Soups? I read somewhere that if you can drink it through a straw it is considered a liquid. I have a delicious Soup recipe I want to make~ and then blend into liquid. Would that be ok? Any advice or suggestions appreciated.

I've read the same thing. Anything you can sip thru a straw is considered ok. I used creamy Soups when I was on full liquids and they worked well.... but they were just Campbell's varieties, I never made my own.

It really depends on the doctor, but basically, yes, anything that is runny. My suggestions from my doctor are V8 juice (but not other juices), cream Soups without chunks of stuff, SF pudding, & Protein Drinks. I know some who consider runny oatmeal & grits & yogurt part of full liquid, but I was told those were more for puréed/soft stage. However, I guess if you made anything runny enough it'd be considered liquid. You just want to ease into things & not do anything too "heavy" right away.

Like Michelle said, it really depends on the doctor. (I wish everyone could get on the same page of what a pre-op and post-op diet should look like, and how the various stages are defined. But that's a rant for another time. LOL!)

In my full liquids stage, I was allowed strained Soup. What I was instructed to do was to put the soup in a blender, and then strain it. My personal favorite was to strain a cream of mushroom soup, and then mix in some unjury chicken broth Protein powder. It was kind of high in sodium, but it tasted SO GOOD, and it was nice change of pace from the usual sweet stuff like Protein shakes.

I was also allowed sugar free pudding, but it didn't do much nutritionally so I didn't eat it very often.

Oh, I was also allowed blenderized cottage cheese. I know, it sounds weird and it kind of is. But I thought it tasted great (again, I was sick of sweet stuff at this point). I'd sprinkle a little spike or other seasoning on it.

It's summer now, this this may not sound so appealing, but my all time favorite bariatric treat (which you are allowed on full liquids!) is Protein hot chocolate! I like the BariWise brand, and the cinnamon flavor is so so so yummy. You have to order it online, though, because I don't think they sell it in stores. I get mine through diets direct, but there are probably many other online retailers.

Enjoy your full liquids!

Always remember full liquids still must consist of at least 80 grams of Protein. If you don't get your Protein, at month 3 and 4 your hair will be paying a serious price.

We all have to suffer the dreaded 3-4 month post-op hair issue, you can make it less dramatic by getting in all your protein. As stated above, still watch out for empty calories and empty nutrition foods and high sodium content, it will just make the weight loss that much slower.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
