I am also pre-op. I had a doctors appt today and asked the doctor, " If a leak were to occur when does it usually happen?" He said usually within the first 4-6 weeks after surgery. I would be interested to hear what other doctors have told people.

Most people that have a leak at 3 months or more have had it since the early weeks and it is discovered later. This is a very very very low chance of happening. (Of course for the person who HAS the leak it is 100%, right?) Be confident in your surgeon's leak record. That's what kept me calm. There are symptoms that accompany most leaks, so an undetected leak is an even slimmer chance.

I was also told that the major leak zone is in the 4-6 week range.

I had a leak. I asked my dr. how long out after surgery it's possible to get them, and honestly? It's a long time. Longer than you think! But it's not likely to happen. Leaks ARE scary, but they are rare.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
