Question For All You At Or Near Goal?

Recommended Posts

I belong to another group that were sleeved in May. People talk a lot about stalls and slowing down. My theory from scanning through the profiles and signatures that provide enough detail from members a few months out, is that you lose fastest the first couple of months but then things slow to more of an average of around 10 lbs.

Can you comment to your personal experience? I feel that many are getting discouraged and may be expecting to keep up their 14 lb per week weight loss.

How did your weight loss go?

Thanks

I'm not sleeved yet, June 4th is my date. I'm hoping for a loss of no more than 10lbs a month because maybe my skin will catch up to my body. In the long run losing a little more slowly is better. My whole point of getting the sleeve is because I would get long stalls with my weight loss, get frustrated and then over eat and break my diet. Now, when I hit those same plateaus I won't be able to "pig out".

My monthly wt. loss was as follows:

17 lbs.

8 lbs.

9 lbs

8.5 lbs

4 lbs

9 lbs

6 lbs

8 lbs

3.5 lbs

6.5 lbs

5 lbs.

I lost an additional 13 lbs getting into maintenance. I started at 232 and I weighed 137 this morning. My starting BMI was 35.3.

I haven't tracked mine monthly, but it has definitely slowed down!! I would say I lose an average of about 5 a month now. I'm 7 months out. I lost very steadily in the beginning, and then I started stalling out a lot and my weight loss started to "staircase".

But, yes. Our weight loss slows down significantly as you move along. And this is a good thing, IMO. It is safer and healthier for your body to lose the weight gradually. It also helps your skin to catch up.

It is totally unrealistic to expect the really big losses to continue week after week. This is my loss by calendar month, weighing every monday. Month 1 is two weeks of preop diet where I lost 8, and the two weeks post op where I lost 20.

I agree with CowGirlJane. Your body can't maintain that rate of loss. Stalls are a necessary part of the journey and should not discourage you.

My weight is tracked in my signature which you can see if you view this post through a web page.

Haha... I hate the way I lose weight. It is sooooo depressing if I let it get me down. I literally plateau for 3 weeks. Yes, I said that right.... 3 weeks, then lose right after my period. It sucks. I want to scream sometimes, but you know what? I am 23 lbs to goal. I am 3 lbs to a normal BMI. I stick to my plan and the weight does come off... that one week a month. Don't let the weight loss get you down if it is slower. There is no magic time frame for this. Just keep the Protein high and Water coming, and you should lose.

NICE!!!

Share your best piece of advice one year out.

What would you suggest to someone who was, let's say ... 6 months out and struggling with a stall.

Congrats and thanks for being a great member of the community.

I'm 4 months out. 8 lbs from dr goal. A size 6. Shopping for clothes fun now. But I been dropping 1 lb a week for a while. My first month. Dr told me to eat carbs. I had lost almost half the fat. 2 nd month dr told me eat more carbs. 3 mo. I told dr I was eating everything. N ate about every 2 hrs. For me. Everything I was told before surgery. They. Changed their mind after first month. So. I have no idea how much I eat in a given day. Ppl talk bout fat. Caps per day. I don't know how much I consume. My bf getting mad cause I eat so much now when we share not enough for him. Oh well. Last few weeks I'm trying to mostly do carbs. I want to hit dr goal at my 6 mo visit

Motochic, I highly recommend you use MyFitnessPal. You will be able to track everything you eat and then review the breakdown of calories, fat, carbs, Protein ...

There is a thread HERE where many VST members have posted their MFP names so you can also look at what others are eating.

For me, the bottom line is to follow the rules of:

  • Eat Protein first, then veggies, then carbs
  • Don't drink before during or immediatly after eating
  • Exercise

As long as I do this, I don't worry too much about quantity. The sleeve takes care of that for me.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
