Its Getting Closer ( The Surgery Day)So I Am Freaking Out

Recommended Posts

ok, so I joined this site last year, but I have posted the most within the past 3 days! lol Anyway, There are things that I am thinking about, and I just feel that I am not prepared. I am a sales rep and 70% od my job is traveling. Unfortunately I can only afford to take a week off. I go back to work June 12, and my boss's boss will be in town. I have not told anyone about the surgery, too much negativity, so I am freaking out!!! I am in Memphis and they (management) to Memphis in the summer for our BBQ. I will be on liquids. I don't know what to do. I told him that I will be on a liquid diet. He said that's not possible and live in Memphis. Uggh. I will have to bring my hubby as a distraction. Also, I when did everyone start back driving? I have store visits throughout Memphis and North MS. I don't want to start driving and have something bad happen to my stitches or poor circulation. Thats a problem I have now. Cant type anymore. Stitches in my finger really hurts.

I don't think driving restrictions relate to stitches. When I received the lap band, the doctor OK'd driving as soon as I was off pain meds. I think it is the same with this procedure. I think the bigger concern is whether you will have the level of energy that your job requires. And the barbecue thing will be a no-no.

lol. the no to the BBQ is actually the easiest thing. Havent had any of that for months. The energry factor concerns me too. But my WLS doc wants us to take liquid B12 or b12 shots. So i think I will be ok. the stories i have read, everyone seems so tired the first month. is that about right?

It's tough living in the south and dieting! Everyone here thinks you ought to eat to be healthy!!! I'm in North MS (and preop) and all I hear out of my mom is....."I worry about you not eating!" She ought to worry about me eating! That's what got me here!

That seems to be right, Ready, although it seems to vary. I don't have my sleeve revision until July, so I can't speak from experience on this one. When I had the lap band surgery, I was back to normal in a couple of days but it is much less invasive. There are a couple of threads about how long you should take off work -- you might want to check those out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
