Anyone having port pain?

Recommended Posts

I was banded a year and a half ago now. I have always had mild pain around my port - mostly after I eat and especially if I eat too much :hungry: . It seems that it is the worst if I'm up moving around. If I sit down it gets better usually but not always. Does anyone else have this problem? :D

It has been 1 year 3 months and I am also experiencing intermittent port pain. I find the things that irritate it the worst are snug waistbands, long periods sitting at a pc, lying on that side and sometimes during intercourse. ( more the pressure from above ). Sorry to be graphic but want to be honest. It is usually more of annoyance then horrible pain. I find if I change positions, get up and move around and try on ALL pants/skirts before buying helps. I have lost 108lbs and this is a small inconvenience compared to the big picture. But sometimes I freak myself out thinking something serious is going on and stress about ever having my band removed...silly I know, but human. Good luck!

Only been banded for 10 days but so far it has been wonderful. But yesterday I noticed the swelling around my incisions has gone down substantially and I have occasional frequent sharp, shooting pains at port site. Is this normal? Katt

Yeah, lately I've had some discomfort. It seems that my ribs and port are having a disagreement at the moment. I have tried to contact my doctor last week, but they stay busy. I am going to call back on Monday and try to set up an appt with him to get checked out.

I wouldn't say my hurts constantly, but probably it hurts nearly as much as it doesn't hurt. It's not bad, usually just a mild ache. Every now and then it'll get worse than that, I kind of prod with with my hands, and the attention seems to make it back down, as odd as that is.

Whenever I eventually make it to (or around) goal, I plan of having some work done to my body, and at that time, I intend to have the smaller low profile port installed. It's flatter I guess.

I was banded in May. I have had one fill in July. I'm doing great (33 lbs gone so far!), but I am experiencing SEVERE port-site pain. The pain is so great that I am unable to take full breaths. It is a very bad "bruise" type pain. I'm not sure what is causing it, but it does get worse around the time of my period (from cramping I think). When I am sitting it doesn't seem to be as bad, but when I try to stand the pain can be so severe that I am unable to stand up straight.

Any suggestions?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
