Hello all! I was sleeved on 4/16/12 and I lost 30 pounds very quickly. I've been stalled for the last two weeks. My bariatric surgeon deployed so I'm seeing a general surgeon for the moment. He says 1500 calories a day is about right and his nurse says 500. I picked 800 calories to be in the middle and I very rarely have that many. So my question is how many calories does everyone else have? I'm 5'3" and 220. Im starting to get very depressed, what's the point of the surgery if I don't break 200? Is 220 as low as I'm going to get?

Wow - 500 versus 1500 calories is a huge range. Wouldn't it be nice if everyone could agree on what sleevers should eat??

I think 800 is probably a good number for you to land on. I can be a challenge to eat that many calories early out, but it will get easier with time. My surgeon recommended 600-800 calories a day during the "losing" phase of things. I averaged around 650 calories and did well. Some people need more than that to feel good, though. So you have so listen to you body and gauge what is the right range for you.

Stalls suck. Sorry you've hit one. I had a 3 weeks stall that happend about 6 weeks out from surgery. Nothing seemed to break it. Some people have luck when they tweak their calories, increase carbs, increase Protein, increase exercise, etc. etc.... but I have frankly found that the best strategy is to just keep following the "sleeve rules" (that is, your diet plan) and trust the stall will break. And, believe me, it will!

Hang in there! You're off to an awesome start!!

I'm in a stall right now too, and I'm just under 4 months out...I set 900 calories on MFP, but I never get that much in a day--probably more like 700. I'm trying to hold steady in terms of intake, but next week I'll be moving from an exercise regimen that was mostly strength training to one that has mostly cardio, so we'll see if that helps. Hope your stall is a short one!

@mrdflyboybs:

Im similar stats and surgery date to you and currently..... in a 10 day stall.

I contacted my NUT and her response is to keep between 600-800cal, 90+g Protein and under 30g carbs/day. She told me that with my BMI- the likely cause of my stall is excessive carb intake (which is truthful- I let myself go hog wild this last week).

Stay the course of 600-800 cal/day, watch the carbs and lets bust out of this stall together. There is no humanly way that this is as low as were gonna get- we got "one-derland" just a few short weeks ahead!

I am of the firm opinion you eat whatever calories you need to get in your protien. The rest is gravy. well, shouldn't be gravy! lol

Water, Vitamins and nutrients and sleep are key in stalls - exercize too, but if you are already exercizing even just modestly, the sleep, Water and nutrients is where I, in my experience, will see the difference.

Fluxuating in daily calories 15- 200 or so helps me too, but for very specific reasons to do with my poo-poo metabolism.

PS - I stall alot, so take what I say with, well, with that in mind I guess :o

My doctor told me no more than 800 until I get to my goal. I am almost 6 months out. If I get in a stall, I eat nothing but Protein and liquids for a couple days and break the stall. I really don't see how someone can get in 1200-1500; I have enough trouble getting in 800! How many oz. are you eating at a time to get in so many calories? Just curious!

My dietician and Dr. said not to care about calories vs eating plenty of Protein. They said 800 to 1000 calories would be good standard. I had to increase 200 calories to my 1000 to lose more weight. I hit starvation mode and didn't lose a lb until I upped my calories. I have lost 27 lbs since March 19, my surgery date.

example : Breakfast is a half cup of Cereal, almonds and a half cup of milk. Then fruit and cheese for snack, Protein Shake or bar for lunch about 8oz, Peanut Butter w/ crackers (half serving on box), 1/2 cup cut fruit or smoothie and supper today was half cup Tomato Soup with Protein Powder and cheese. Then for snack half a fruit cup with Protein Jello and/or pistachios. I like fruit it keeps me regular & I try to Get all my Water in too so it seems I am always eating. I work-out at least 30 minutes a day too.

I had surgery 3-1 and my doc/nutritionist have me at 800-1000 calories a day. Most days I can barely get in 600 calories but I try and make sure I do the 60g Protein daily even if it takes me 3 hrs to drink those stupid shakes. It's normal to stall tho I'm about 3 months out and I've stalled about 3 times. Sometimes for 3-4 weeks at a time. Just keep doing the Proteins, vitamins/meds they give u, and a lil bit of exercise or moving around. U will get out of ur stall soon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
