Antacids - Need Something Different

Recommended Posts

Hi All.. I was sleeved in April 16th and I have had a very easy recovery. Matter of fact, other than the amounts of food I can eat I don't even feel like I had surgery.... :)

My question is this.... I get bouts of acid reflux or heartburn from time to time and I can't seem to narrow it down to a certain food. Sometimes I get it just by drinking Crystal Light or Gatorade G2.

I was taking Nexium here and there but I think I may need something different. I keep Tumms on hand and they seem to work but I wanted to ask what everyone else was taking in the form of an antacid.

Thanks for your input!

I am on my prevacid but am being switched to Nexum..I heard all them work different for everyone so it may take a few tries. My Nut said that one problem is Crystal Light..alot people get heartburn after surgery who drink it...so try to avoid it~!!!

that is so odd. I never would have thought that Crystal Light would give me heartburn. As much as I try to drink my Water I need some flavor to get it all down. I've added Turkey Hill Diet Green Tea with Mango and have no issues. Maybe I will make my own iced tea and use some splenda to sweeten.

Any recommendations on sugar free drinks or mixes???

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
