For the last week I have had really bad back pain on my lower right side. The Dr. Initially thought it might be my kidneys, but all my tests have come back normal. Did anyone else have this? The Dr. said it might just be my body readjusting. I normally have a pretty high pain tolerance, but i'm hurting more now than I did after surgery.

I just went to the doc with this pain today. On my lower left side of my back. Thought it was my kidneys...she thinks its a syndrome called chest wall...that can actually happen anywhere surgery is performed in the body. Basically sensory nerve damage that will get better over time. She put me on pain meds...I hope it goes away fast. It hurts!

Thanks for the info. I went to the doctor again today and now she is sending me for X-rays and a CT scan.

I hope your pain gets better, I know how bad it hurts!

Couldn't it also just be lower back pain unrelated to the surgery? You can easily cause yourself lower back pain without doing anything strenuous.

It might be completely unrelated. I've had it for almost a month though, and the doctor thinks any sort of muscle strain would have gone away by now.

Back pain can be caused by so many things, from a herniated disc to muscle imbalance brought on by poor flexibility, bad posture, a bad mattress... the list goes on and on. If the underlying cause isn't resolved the pain will continue.

Also, back pain is very often referred pain, meaning the spot where you feel the pain is not always the exact origin of the pain. For example tight glutes usually refer pain to the lower back along the belt line. If you have a trigger point therapist in your area, go see him. They are experts in resolving referred pain.

In any case, I don't mean to try to diagnose or second guess your doctor, only to give you options. I hope whatever it is, you are able to get it resolved soon.

This is true! I threw my back out two weeks ago just stepping out of the shower wrong...painful!

The kind of intermittent sharp stabbing pains I am having suggest nerves more than a strained back..my doc says she sees this happen a lot after major surgery. One day of meds down and it feels slightly better already. She says she sees it come, stay for a few weeks, then go. She also said it might be part of the nerves waking up on the inside after the surgery.

This sounds like what I am having.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
