Glucomannan (Fiber) Anyone? Dangerous?

Recommended Posts

Glucomannan is an especially effective Fiber for making the ("normal") stomach feel full, so I am wondering.. is it safe to use Fiber to induce some fullness after VSG?

Though this may arise controversy because I am in fact talking about synthesizing fullness in an already reduced stomach, I'll tell you from experience glucomannan merely helped a bit with satiety when I had a "normal" sized stomach, if at all.

I wonder if there are safety issues anyone is aware of from taking fiber after your stomach has virtually healed?

I notice my stomach seems to have a greater and greater capacity every day, and though I absolutely recognize that it is no where near where it was before surgery, I know that now I can go out to eat with friends without it being evident I am eating less (I am at month 7), and I can get through about 8-10 ounces of food in a sitting. I'm getting 1500-1700 calories a day now, and I tend to get hungry frequently. I fight this urge, but sometimes it's hard, and I think perhaps this fiber supplement may help a bit.

Anyone else have experiences with fiber? Good and bad?

I have no experience with the product you mentioned, but why not use regular foods instead? You should still be working on 70grams of Protein and 64 oz of Water daily. I'm at almost 9 months out and I still can't get in vegetables or carbs well unless I have a Protein Bar early in the day. If you've got enough room to want to fill up your tummy, try raw veggies instead, or use nuts or another dense Protein.< /p>

My concern would be a bezoar (google it), which is somewhat like a hairball in our stomach. If your sleeve doesn't handle that fiber product well, it may not digest properly, which could leave you in pain, or it could leave undigested fibers in your sleeve and cause other problems. If you're wanting to use this fiber to encourage bathroom movement, I'd suggest benefiber or something similar instead.

I think I'd call the nutritionist and ask before using this one.

BTW, It's good to "see" you! :)

Thanks!

I have taken typical fiber before, but when it comes to a fiber that is known for expanding in the stomach I'm not quite sure- fiber is even recommended to me by my doctor to help digestion.

I find that perhaps drier foods (go figure) tend to be easy to eat a lot of, moist foods (cooked veggies, fruit) are not only healthier but they seem to fill me up better.

I get about 80 ounces of Water a day, I also do about 20 ounces of juice (green juice I make myself) too.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.
