Tomorrow Is The Day- Getting The Crapband Out Of Me!

Recommended Posts

Im super excited but nervous at the same time. I have a husband and 2 kids and I worry about not making it through the surgery. But Im looking forward to getting back to my weight loss. I've gained 20 lbs since my slip was diagnosed and my band was unfilled. I feel gross and disgusting right now. Anyways, wish me luck!

it seems a lot of you guys are going straight from band to sleeve. i wish i had mine done that way. you see, i had my band removed for the past 3 years and my weight has crept back on . now i have to decide if i should do surgery again or not and let me tell you its not an easy decision. i know how it is when something goes bad, as with the band and i feel sooo fortunate to have it gone and have no life long effects of it. its all just a bad memory. I'm so afraid of something bad happening again. now i found out from a operative report that i have a staple line in my stomach from when the surgeon removed my band, nice huh? that put me more at risk for leaks!! I'm so worried.

I was the queen of terror as it relates to surgery - but came through with flying colors! The worst part was I was very sore where the port was. No, the worst part is I got super, stupid, even worse then before hungry all the time after the band was out. That pushed me over the edge to get that sleeve though!

My prayers will be with you - but I know you will come through with flying colors!

i had a bad bad bad experience too read "my story (lengthy but its mine) i still believe that just because my surgeon and my band were highly defective that i deserve the right surgery done by the right surgeon which is why im continuing on. i believe i owe it to myself, take your time if its something you think you want then do it. it is such a personal decision dont let anyone tell you what to do follow your heart on this one. i wish you peace.

Hey ladies- I'm bandless and sleeved! Everything went well with surgery but it took him 5 hrs instead of 3 because of all of the scar tissue. He did have to put in a drain which I want to have taken out so badly. The doc kept me one night longer because it was a longer surgery than anticipated. I'm hoping to go home tonight!

Hunger hasn't been an issue. Just thirsty all the time. Anyways that's all for now :)

Yay! I had my crapband out on May 23 and was sleeved... so far so good just on the thirsty train as well, sipping and sipping ever so slowly although today (8 days out) I noticed I can definitely take a bigger sip and I don't feel anything negative like I did the first few days... I spent 1 night in and then my doc paid for me to have a visiting nurse over the holiday weekend for hydration for 3 days, it was the best move ever, it made me way less stressed about drinking when it was painful and I was able to get back on feet easier. I was back at work on the 29th and here I am :) I'm down 14 lbs since surgery and no pain (though I think this is mostly due to the fact that my belly button to top of my thighs are numb from my plastics in November - blessing in disguise)...I am longing for something salty that isn't broth however...I ventured to a creamy potato Soup and that went ok today i just left the potato chunks there but probably could have eaten them given that my chewy Vitamins and Jello are going down quick and easy. AMEN for popsicles :)

YAY! Im finally home! Doctor came by with discharge instructions around 8:15 pm and it took until 9:30 to get everything situated. But Im home and can sleep in my own bed without people constantly interrupting me. Hopefully my kitty will so the same.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
