My surgery is about a week away and Im wondering about pain management afterwards. Is lotab really as nasty as people says it is?? I REALLY REALLY hate liquid medicine. I havent had liquid medicine since childhood because the taste always made me throwup. Is their any alternative to pain management afterwards??

My question I have the Lapband now but am miserable. I have had it less than a year. I go to see my doctor about converting to the sleeve. After the band they send you home with roxicet which is like a liquid Percocet. It really helped with the pain. Did anyone get this for pain with the sleeve?

Amy

My problem with the Lortab was the burning sensation and immediate nausea. I tried to wait 6 hours between does so i could take Zofran right afterward. But within 10 minutes my pain was so much better so the side effects were worth it to me.

It was kinda nasty but I really needed it because of the hernia repair. It was quite painful, so I took every drop of two whole bottles for two weeks. You may not need much or any. I used low sugar apple or grape juice as a chaser. That helped a LOT.

Came home with liquid lortab, but could not keep it down. Yesterday picked up a new rx liquid roxicet and it is much easier to handle. Its more concentrated so you don't have to swallow as much either. Also picked up rx Zofran a sublingual anti-nausea drug to take a few minutes before ingesting the pain med. Has made a big difference for me.

Seems like I have been having more post-op pain than others here are reporting, I'm 6 days out and still hurts to move much. Doctor says everything's ok though, just slow progression. Definitely talk to your doctor about the post-op home med options because doing it after the fact was really frustrating. Wishing you all the best!

Tylenol with cod is in the majority of pharmacies and doesn't have too bad of a taste. I had to take it instead of the vicodin because vicodin stimulates me and kept me up for 3 nights and days. Blahhhhhhhhhhhh! ;)

I received a script for straight liquid hydrocodone (lortab is a hydrocodone/acetaminophen split) and I won't lie it was pretty gross to me, but it washed down pretty well with a few sips of gatorade.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
