Question About Restriction

Recommended Posts

As the days go by I'm beginning to wonder if my dr even did a sleeve on me. Today is day #11 and I can hardly tell any restriction the last 2 days. Have I screwed up & stretched it already??? :'(

I think it takes a little while to start feeling the real restriction. As long as you are consuming mostly liquids and really soft foods, you can take in way more...once you add meat to the mix, it seems you fill up quickly. I actually think you are not as sensitive nerve-wise and it takes a little while to start really feeling the restriction. I think that is the reason it is so important to follow your post-op diet...

Still on liquids? You WILL notice the restriction when you start solids.

I have felt like that a couple of times...it has gotten way better the last couple of weeks...In the beginning, it's like you are so consumed with what you can and can't have. As you go along, you learn what you can and can't eat...you quit trying things and really start using the sleeve to your benefit. I ate about 10 pita chips today...five of them had hummus, the other five were plain...I was so full I could barely move...But for Breakfast, I had about 1/4 cup of frittata, lunch was about 2 oz of chicken, and then I ate those pita chips...I most of the time eat five meals a day, but today, I have only eaten three times. Probably cause I ate five times yesterday...and I am just not that hungry today. So don't beat yourself up over it. I remember drinking 12 oz of Protein drink when I was doing liquids...my doctor said that was normal in the liquid stage. I did not gulp it down, but I don't remember savoring it for any great amount of time either...I don't think there is a lot of stretching going on in the first months anyway...I think that probably comes with overindulging over a period of time...

KFC mashed potatoes and gravy was my go-to on mushies...I didn't really like Beans. I didn't have meat until week 5.

Oh its a totally different when you get to solids. Liquids and soft things slide on through the sleeve. More solid foods stick around longer in the stomach. You're doing fine, just remember to be eating the healthy liquids and soft foods. No ice cream ..etc.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
