You should only be eating very soft foods, so if you do eat fruit, eat soft ones like a little banana. some fruit is ok...natural carbs are what you want. Protein is always your priority so I have found that I don't have much room left over for fruit and carbs but I still manage to eat small amounts most days. When I was a few weeks postop, I smashed up strawberries, too, since I love them!

What about watermelon? It's in season right now, and seems like it would be easy to tolerate... although, I've not had my surgery yet, so I could be wrong... just thought perhaps small bites would be tolerable.

I eat small cubed pieces of watermelon. I have started to do so almost daily since Houston started getting back into the 90's. I keep some in the fridge and some in the freezer.

If you eat ot dont cut up your piece til you are ready to eat it, or eat it with a baller, so you dont release all of your fluids. I find watermelon to be refershing, keeping my liquids high, and it breaks down when properly chewed to where you can have alot.

I HAVE noticed it is still best to measure it. It is fibery and if you eat your fill, it can take a long time to pass. I also think it has cause occasional tummy aches.

I'm almost three months out. My NUTS says I can eat fruit but wants me to lose some more weight because of my diabetes to avoid blood sugar spikes

Please be careful of the banana. It has alot of carbs. Right now you need to concentrate on Protein. If you want fruits, I would suggest watermelon, kiwi, or grapefruit sections. I am almost 6 months out and have not had a banana since. i really watch my carbs, even from fruit. Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
