Hello!

My name is NIchole and I am working through my pre-requisites for the Gastric Sleeve :) I haven't met with my Dr yet but I have had my sleep study, where I found out I do have sleep Apnea and now have a CPAP which I love! I had my psych evaluation and have met my nutritionist 2 times. I am hoping to have a surgery date sometime in the end of summer. If anyone has any tips on things to do to prepare for the surgery PLEASE let me know!

I am doing this surgery because I have 4 kids that need me here for as long as possible. I would also like to be able to keep up with them and be able to play with them without pain and exhaustion...

The sleeve is a wonderful tool. However, please do your research of the good and bad. Realize that you will really not be able to eat anything at first. For a food lover this is a very hard time. Also eating so little means that social gatherings that revolve around food (like most do) will be totally different. Also, low energy is an understatement. I am not trying to be negative.... I am just emphasizing the reality that I totally was not prepared for. Read the site and you'll see all the amazing things. It is 8:32pm and I am only at 300 calories and I am trying to figure out how I am going to get to 800 without being in unbearable pain.

Welcome! Definitely take time to read a lot here and go to a local support group if your doctor or hospital has one. I just had my surgery 2 weeks ago tomorrow & am very happy with my decision. Feel free to check out my blog (listed in my signature) if you want also. I think I've been kind of lucky to not have had much pain & haven't had any "head hunger" yet. Although there is a long road ahead, I would suggest trying to eat healthier now (if you haven't already), and also cut out any soda and/or caffeine you current consume (if any). I'd suggest starting a Multivitamin if you don't regularly take one. The healthier you are before surgery, the easier your recovery will be. Feel free to ask any questions you can think of. I'm happy to help if I can & there are many who have more experience that are more than willing to help too! Best of luck on your journey!

I have done a years worth of research so far. I have bought books and spent hours online looking at forums and just researching all bariatric surgeries. I also work in the hospital here in town where I will be having surgery. It is a bariatric Center of Excellence so I also talk to my friends that work in that section of the hospital.

I have quit drinking soda and am putting much more effort into keeping a food journal...this is hard for me for some reason. I am excersing more and got a family pass to our local pool to try and get out and be more active.

Thank you ladies for the info! I hope you are all doing well :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
