I have suffered from restless leg syndrome my whole life. It's maddening. I do know that they have medications that they can prescribe now but I have not yet delved into that. My brother has it violently, so I figured I could live with mine. But someday...

Oh my gosh! I had NO idea this was worse because of surgery. I've always had restless legs, but it is 1000 times worse now. What are you doing to help? The only thing that helps me is a hot bath, but it doesn't always work. I'm tired of laying in bed til 4am with this.:(

I don't know what to do. I lay in bed tossing and turning. My arms are even restless. I have to get up and walk around but it frightens me to do in my house because it's haunted. (no im not crazy lol)

I got restless legs and arms when I was pregnant, but after my little girl was born, it went away. Until one month after surgery, and it came back 10 times worse than before. I found that if I had an active day ( walking on the treadmill, doing yoga) then it wasn't as bad, and I haven't had it again, since I started going to the gym a month ago.

There are some really good meds that control restless leg. You may need to try a couple different ones to find the one that works best for you.

I wish. I have army doctors and they don't prescribe anything. It's so frustrating.

I've been struggling with this the last few months (just had my surgery 13 days ago). And even if I fall asleep, I invariably wake up around 3 am and can't get back to sleep! It leaves me exhausted, and I can't take Benedryl every night! sleeping pills are out of the question, as they leave me "zombie-like" the entire next day!

Today I decided that rather than suffering through another night like that (I go back to work tomorrow after 2 weeks off for the surgery), I would take a walk (1.5 miles) a couple of hours before bedtime (that's now!), with the hope that it would calm my legs a bit. I don't know if it will work, but I sure hope so!

I found magnesium worked very well. If you dont want to take magnesium suppliments then 2 panadol before bed works for me as well.

Just a thought too... I thought I had RLS only to find out that my Calcium levels were really low. Also if I wasn't too good at taking all my calcium pills that day, that night I have that involuntary muscle cramping/spasms to contend with.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
